My child
It has been 7 years since we lost you. How has time gone by so fast? Yet when you passed it was as time slowed down to a crawl. I miss you so greatly. But you know that as I sit here looking at your photo. On a photo for a time but forever in my heart. I love you son. RIP.

My loving son, it is almost police week in DC. You will be there in spirit with your name tragically inscribed in a marble slab marker for your ultimate sacrifice. Remember you will always more than just a name on a wall. What a gem the badged community lost. As for your biological family, we speak of you many times that it is too numerous to count. You are important to many people. RIP my love. We will see each other when our time comes and when we do it will be such a joyous celebration. I love you Daniel. MOM

I would like to thank everyone for their wonderful words of acknowledge for Daniel's work, his friendships, and from another mother who misses her child as well who offered up his Supreme Sacrifice. I'm sorry for your loss as well. Everyone's words of tribute are very important and special and do offer me some comfort because in your words Daniel mattered. Thanks so much. Your words are beautiful and encouraging for me during a very tortious grievous time.

To my loving son, whom I am sure is watching from above. There is not a day that goes by that you are not missed by anyone in your family. Your removal from us too soon hurts all to our very core and our hearts still pour out hurt daily as we feel your absence from us. I ask the Devil every day, "why my son". But I do not wish this type of hurt on anyone. It is destroying to my heart, mind, and very soul. Everyday, everyday, my child. I remember learning I was expecting you, raised you and watched you become the fine man you were. Of course, you were not perfect with your "devilish, mischievous" moments. But that was just you. I still expect to get a phone call from school about you, saying "Hello, Ms. Davis, we need to talk to you about Daniel". You gave me a run for my money when you were growing up but I relish in the memories of the man you became, as you became a father, husband, police officer who climbed quickly and with honors in his career. My son, you are in my thoughts and prayers everyday that you are sitting in heaven with other family members who have proceeded and followed you in death, having a beer, laughing at "having to deal with the women in this family", and fishing in a quiet country setting, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. I hope you have found peace, my love. And until we meet again in death, I do ALWAYS remember you daily. And cherish those you left behind. Your loving mother.

Daniel, I keep you and my other brothers and sisters in my prayers. Our daughters became friends in school and not long after your death I was honored to dance with your daughter at the school father daughter dance. The girls enjoyed it all very much and I am sure she knew you were watching over her. God Bless and keep you.

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Daniel died,.

To Daniel's family, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Sgt. Davis gave to his community and the citizens of Alabama, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on November 10, 2013.

Sgt. Daniel Davis was one of the most determined police officers you could have met. He loved his job to the core and was always eager to learn more. "Junior" as we called him here at the Phenix City Police Dept. was always driven to be the Chief before he became sergeant. Junior drove us crazy but always managed to put a smile on our faces. It was a pleasure to have served side by side with you Junior. I pray for your family and friends that the memories you created with them will sustain them for they will miss you even more. You were a blessing to the law enforcement profession and the citizens of Phenix City. I thank you my brother. May you rest in peace Junior.
