I have told my brother and my mother what happened to your son and I will never forget him, for how short his life was and how much he was able to do with his time, is truly amazing I look up to your son anything he put his mind to he did it, I wanna be just like that you truly got to my heart and I will never forget your amazing son.

Wow Casey. Three years already. I think of you often. I'm so sorry that your young life was ended so senselessly. It remind me how lucky I was during my 18 year tour of duty that aside from a few scrapes and bruises, I survived.
I planted a Minnesota Red Pine at my cabin in northern Minnesota in your memory. It is thriving.

Tomorrow will be 3 years. 3 years since the loss of you forever changed the lives of so many people. I never met you, but I wish I had. I heard about you in passing from Nick and once we even joked on Facebook with him about "What Does the Fox Say?" Its funny, my son still randomly sings that song and I wonder if you have something to do with it.

3 years ago, I attended your funeral. I watched my best friend bury his friend, partner and brother. I watched fellow officers break down and cry. I watched your family fall apart but your community come together to support them.

3 years ago, I heard your last call, and I knew it was the hardest part of the day for all of us. I didn't know how we'd move forward. But your passing inspired a movement, Project Blue Light IL, and we still shine bright today to honor you.

3 years ago you changed my life and you still do today. Every time I come home and see my blue light, I am reminded of you. When I see all the friends and opportunities that have come into my life because of PBL:IL, I am reminded of you. Every time I see your family, talk to Nick, pass your memorial, attend an officer funeral, put up a blue light picture, I am reminded of you.

It is a damn shame we had to lose you. Nothing will ever completely fill the void of you being gone. But I know your sacrifice continues to change the lives of people you've never even met. I know you & Draco are up there watching out for our blue line family. If we can't have you here, at least we can have you up there keeping us safe. 3 years Officer Casey Kohlmeier. 3 years... You are not forgotten #103 and you never will be.

A friend of mine met your mother today in D.C. Last year was a bit too much, too soon for her to take in so she's there again this year. My Trooper brother is there now because two other Troopers, both friends - one was like my teacher and one was one of my students, were shot and killed last May 1st. I hear your mother spoke very fondly of you, she misses you, so do all of us. Although I have never met you, you are my brother and I am saddened by your death. THANK YOU for your service to our country and your service to the people of Pontiac & the state of Illinois.

It is hard to believe it has been 258 days since your life ended at the hands of someone else so senselessly. In less than 48 hours I will begin my journey of the Cycle Across IL with the ILCOPS group. This year this ride has even more meaning to me than it ever has before. I will pedal each mile in your honor and to remember you. It was truly and honor and a privilege to not only call you my co-worker but also my friend. I couldn't help but stand by your name and feel a wave of emotion. You and Draco will never be forgotten and I hope you are still side by side.

During the 2014 Candlelight Vigil Ceremony, I had the honor and privilege to volunteer as a Survivor Escort. I escorted your girlfriend from the bus to her seat in the Memorial with your family and co-workers. I was able to learn about the vehicular assault that took your life and K9 Draco's life. As we walked to the seats, your girlfriend shed tears and stated that they were the first tears all week. She also explained how you two met. It's a funny thing about cops and teachers. Know that you and Draco will never be forgotten! It was my honor to share in your memory!
