My wife is an LA County Sheriff Deputy, I know the challenge of woman Officers/Deputies, however they are mostly aggressive to ensure they are vigilant and as I'm sure Elizabeth was. We both mourn for Santa Cruz Police Officers and their families. We love visiting Santa Cruz, now we will make every attempt to thank any Santa Cruz Police Officer we see.
Ironically we were visiting this site to mourn Correctional Officer Williams when the terrible news of this tragedy was added to ODMP.

Justice was served upon the suspect rightfully and we are proud of the professionalism Santa Cruz Officers bestow.

I, like this hero, am a sexual assault investigator and know the emotional toll of her work. She has witnessed and been exposed to more human depravity than any person should have to endure, yet she fought the good fight and gave her life for the community she served and more importantly.....for the victims of sexual violence.....thank you sister for your sacrifice. God bless her family....especially her children. May you have favorable winds and following seas.

A police officer should be remembered not by how she died, but how she lived! A great woman has gone to secure a safe path for the rest of us to follow. Thank you to you, your family and the Santa Cruz Police Department. Our country is a little less safe without you. Rest in Peace Sister.

For Detective Elizabeth Butler and Sergeant Loren Baker and their families......

Seasons drift so quickly
Beneath the single sky
A lesson in the making
All things must come to die.

Therein lies the silence
The journey beyond the breath
To flowers in the forest
We've now become in death.

But speak of the glint of the eye
Reflected in Damascus Blade
For those who saw freedom & honor
And in battle their lives they gave.

So take heart men and women of Valor
Know your deeds will endure the night
Live on as flowers in the forest
Live on, within God's light.

Rest in Peace, your tour of duty is done, others will carry on your work.........
