Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Billy Ray Grimsley

Psalm 23 ("The Lord is My Shepherd")

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

Thoughts & Prayers from your colleagues across the pond in Staffordshire, England.

The Policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining as brightly as his brass.
“Step forward now, officer. How shall I deal with You?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my Church have you been true?”
The officer squared his shoulders and said,
“No, Lord, I guess I ain’t.
Cause those of us who carry badges can’t always be a saint.
But I never took a penny that wasn’t mine to keep,
Though I worked a lot of overtime when the bills just got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help, though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me, I wept unmanly tears.
I know I don’t deserve a place among the people here.
They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.
If you’ve a place for me here, Lord, it needn’t be so grand.
I’ve never expected or had too much.
But if you don’t, I’ll understand.”
There was silence all around the throne where the saints had often trod.
As the officer waited quietly for the answer of his God.
“Step forward now, Officer, you’ve borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven’s Streets. You’ve done your time in Hell.”

Rip Brother. Rest easy knowing that your colleagues will continue your good work and attempt to keep you alive in the way they do the job.

To all of Billys family...expecially Robin. I know I haven't seen or heard from all of you for almost 40 years. But my sister and I (Pat and Kim Talley) used to go to church with Billy in Academy Park in our teenage years. And yes, he was one of the nicest people you would ever want to meet. Robin...my heart goes out to you...I used to sit next to you in 11th grade Biology class at Cradock HS. You and Billy took in my little dog, Mr. Big Stuff. Wonderful memories from those days. I am so sorry for all the heartache you and your family are going thru.

Robin and your family...so sorry to hear of Billys passing. I know I haven't heard from any of you for 35 or so years. But I used to go to church with Billy in Academy Park. I also sat next to you in 11th grade at Cradock HS Biology Class. I am Pat Talley and my sister is KIm...I'm sure you will remember. You and Billy took in my little dog, Mr. Big Stuff. Wonderful memories of back then. And everyone is right....he was one of the nicest persons you would want to meet.

Your work is done here on Earth - Heaven has called upon you today, leaving so many words left to say. But now it's too late, for your time has come, words unspoken; I am sure everybody has some. Regrets and wishes are probably there too, but lasting forever are memories of you.
There have been many times that we waved to each other, but we were there for each other in time of need. Now it's time for us to say Good-Bye, until we meet again in heaven to fly. Now go and Patrol the Heavens Above and Watch Below those you Love. Thank you for your service.
