I have laid down my life in service to all of you.
I have been a part of the fabric that has held the line between your safety and your victimization.
As I now become a part of the rich history of law enforcement, please remember me always for I have left behind those who loved and depended upon me.
I have given my life so that others may live in peace.
My partners and my agency, please remember my family, their loss, and don’t let time soften your compassion for them.
You guard the gate now and I will continue my watch from above.

MAY YOU REST IN PEACE AND MAY YOUR FAMILY FIND COMFORT IN THE GOOD YOU HAVE DONE HERE ON EARTH.

I worked with Joe for several years on that expressway. I remember several nights where it was 99% boredom, but then that 1% occurred and he was there doing whatever he could.
It wasn't just a job to him it was a dedication. He had a big heart, he cared about what he did, and he did his best. He suffered the Ultimate Sacrifice because he was trying to rescue people he didn't know. I'm sorry you couldn't keep that subtle promise we all make to our family, the one that goes 'I'll see ya tomorrow.'. It doesn't sound like much after awhile but on the ride to work you really mean it. Rest well Joe you did a great job.

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures; He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul; He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me...

Hi Joe: I know you can hear us up in heaven and just wanted you to know we all are proud of the good work and many years that you did as a Police Officer. You risked your life to help others and lost your own while doing that.

I remember the days of knowing you in Slocum School and Boy Scouts w/ my sons Jim & Sean.

I pray now that your parents and family will find strength and courage to overcome the grief they feel in losing you. Time will help them ease the pain of your loss especially if they remind themselves you are in heaven and that you are a hero.

May God surround you and your family w/ eternal love,

Joan Best
