Reflections for Officer Kenyon Marc Youngstrom

Rode my bike from Seaside for your Memorial Ride in Visalia today. It was a beautiful day with about 1000 motorcyclists come to pay their respects to you and your brother in service, Deputy Robert Paris, who also gave his life on duty.

As an active duty veteran, I value the time you served our nation's military. As a citizen, I cherish the safety and protection that you provided us within our nation, our home. I am sorry you died, but you died doing something to make us good, while others live a whole life and never amount to much.

I pray for your family, I hope they are doing well. I wish them peace, honor, and dignity.

The Diplomatic Security Service was the lucky one, to be under your escort and protection up and down the 101 and 280 on all of those security details. We will always admire and respect the way you moved our motorcades throughout the Golden Gate Division and we always have your back. We'll make sure the Dalai Lama says a special prayer for you and your family when he's riding in his next CHP motorcade.

I will proudly do so and make sure it shines brightly the next time I'm back at the academy. I hope your name is the last to be added for a long, long time sir. If Today Is to Be the Day…So Be It

By Brian Terry

If you seek to do battle with me this day, you will receive the best that I am capable of giving.

It may not be enough, but it will be everything that I have to give and it will be impressive for I have constantly prepared myself for this day.

I have trained, drilled and rehearsed my actions so that I might have the best chance of defeating you.

I have kept myself in peak physical condition, schooled myself in the martial skills and have become proficient in the applications of combat tactics.

You may defeat me, but I’m willing to die if necessary. I do not fear death for I have been close enough to it on enough occasions that it no longer concerns me.

But, I do fear the loss of my honor and would rather die fighting than to have it said that I was without courage.

So I will fight you, no matter how insurmountable it may seem, to the death if need be, in order that it may never be said of me that I was not a warrior.”

Officer Youngstrom you are loved by many and missed by all. You have paid the ultimate sacrifice and you will never be forgotten. God Speed Sir!

Taken me a minute to write something....I have been to far too many of these. To my brothers and sisters in blue/tan, I am sorry for the loss of your fellow warrior, I have lost two close personal friends to similar situations and I know what it feels like. Stay strong and carry on Kenyons legacy as a skilled peace officer. I am all ears if anyone ever needs to vent.

My sincere and heartfelt sympathy to your family Kenyon. I know support is needed at times like this so if there is anything my family can do for yours please do not hesitate to ask.

To Kenyons eldest son (I am sorry but your name escapes me) and Tyler. What you said at the memorial was....I don't know how to describe it. It took strength and courage and I thank you for going up there and saying what you both said. Stay strong!

Mr Youngstrom,
You are clear, and free to go End of Watch!!!! I log on this page almost daily, and my heart gets crushed almost every time. I have been an active LAPD Officer for 11 years, and yes we have many losses too, but every additional loss hurts. In addition, my cousin is a CHiP out of Riverside, and my uncle is a retired CHiP Sergeant out of the Antelope Valley Station, so your death rings close to my heart. I was at work when I heard of your passing. Our Chief send a message through our in-car computers, and immediatly, I felt compelled to write you. We know why we do what we do. Because it's the greatest god-damn feeling in the world! To help the weak, unable, and the innocent. We are like Super Heros, minus the capes! I pray that you are safe in the arms of heaven, and I pray for your familys' loss and well being.

Thank-You! You are truly a Hero, and thank you for your service to California, and Law Enforcement.

A. Diaz

Police Officer III

May his loved ones continue to be supported by their law enforcement family and other police survivors. Our family grieves with you and for you. To his family, you are in my heart's embrace today.

Kenyon's magnificant gift of life through organ donation not only saved numerous lives, but will be a source of comfort to his family.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the distinguished service Officer Youngstrom gave to his community and the citizens of California and the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on September 6, 2012.
