Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Joshua Shane Mitchell
Josh thank you for your ultimate sacrifice. Something we pray we never have to make, but we are ready, and willing if God is ready for us...I came across your story while browsing thru after God called two of our firefighters home earlier this week.
After looking at videos, and reflections I see you lived life to its fullest, had a true passion for all mankind, loves your family, and your beautiful wife...
My heart and prayers are with your family and LEO family.
RIP Sir...Your sacrifice will never be forgotten.

I am a future Austin County Texas Sheriffs Deputy. I read your story in my Police systems class and read up on your story. Deputy Mitchell thank you for your service being a Peace Officer is a thankless job. I wish I could've met a role model such as yourself. I never met you but still got goosebumps when I read your story and saw the videos of your beautiful wife receiving your flag. I would've taken that bullet for you with honor, your fellow deputies would've too. Your image is burned into my mind and actually been a inspiration to who I need to be, the values, the level head, the community caring type of guy you are. Deputy Mitchell your a inspiration to us all. Rest In Peace my friend.

His Judgment Day:
The officer stood and faced his God, Which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shinning, Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, Officer, How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek To my church have you been true?"
The officer squared his shoulder and said, "No, Lord, I guess I aint, Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays, And at times my talk was rough, And sometimes I've been violent Because the streets are tough.
But I never took a penny That wasn't mine to keep.. Though I worked a lot of overtime, when the bills got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help Though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept an unmanly tear.
I know I don't deserve a place among the people here. They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much, But if you don't...I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne, where the saints often trod. As the officer waited quietly for the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, Officer. You've borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on heaven's streets, You've done your time in hell"

I pray for the family to feel God's comfort and protection during this tragic time. I myself am one of the "younger" law enforcement officers and I have wondered from time to time if the day I'm serving would be my last. We should all be prepared to face our Lord should our time here run out.
