Reflections for Police Officer Celena Charise Hollis

I worked a wedding at the City Park Pavilion not too long ago and noticed officer Hollis’ memorial and bench & wanted to read her story.

It’s my first time walking around the lake at City Park enjoying the peacefulness I felt, when I happened to see your memorial. It’s sadden me to find out the your precious life was taken senselessly by yet another individual with a gun at such a beautiful place. Thank you for all your hard work and dedication in protecting us citizens which in turn took your life as you tried to protect those in danger. May your memory live on in your family, fellow officers and friends.

I never knew you, but I run around City Park lake often. I always stop by your sign. There are people in this department that still talk about how wonderful you were. You will never be forgotten.

Celena, you are always spoken of with respect and admiration for how you lived your life and for your service until the end. As the lines on the Denver Police Department memorial says, "If their names, remembered, give us courage, their sacrifice shall not have been in vain." You give faith and courage to all of us. It’s been three Years ago today,
My friend I knew, she went away.
She left this earth, she could not stay
My friend, she left three years today.

I missed you then,
And I miss you still,
Others who have lost,
Know how I feel.

I know you’re in Heaven up above,
Watching over all, all that you love.
So until the day we meet again,
I’ll say a prayer and remember my friend.
