Reflections for Officer Garret Collin Davis

First and foremost god bless you Officer Garret Davis. It came to a huge blow when I found the news through a mutual friend. I knew him through his sister and I can't stress enough how special of a person he was.

Thank you for your service, and thank you for your kindness you will not be forgotten. May you rest in peace.

"Never forget what they did here. It is rather for us, the living, to be dedicated here to the great task remaining before us - that, from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they here, gave the last full measure of devotion - that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain."
President Lincoln
Your sacrifice and last full measure of devotion will not be forgotten. RIP Brother

I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiance Dennis. Every time I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the officer they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Officer Davis. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. (The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. I can also be found on Face Book.) You will be in my thoughts.

From reading the reflections left for Garret he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember Garret's life and the MAN that he was. Remember that Garret's life was about so much more than the way he died. Garret will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.

Officer Davis, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my late fiance Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been nine years and he's still very much missed and forever loved.

Wishing you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)

Father God, bless this HERO Officers family with strength, peace, and comfort, that only YOU can provide. Bless the Department family as they cope with the loss. Be there, Lord, as they cry out to You in the midnight hour. Cause them to know that You are there and will never leave their side. I paise You and honor You, Lord, for hearing this prayer. In Jesus' Matchless Name, Amen.

I never knew Officer Davis personally. But I have the deepest respect for him and ANY police officer out there. Only months before this we had lost a member of our own family and he was also a police officer. From what everyone says Officer Davis seemed like a wonderful person and my condolences go out to his family and friends. Much aloha to you all.

His days always began with a "10-41"
He was always ready to take on more crime.
The same routine for the past three years,
but he got used to it over time.
Day in and day out he gave it
his all and he did his best.
Never stopping to think that this could be
the last time he straps on his bulletproof vest.
Another day passes and once again
he has protected and served.
But never once really getting
the full recognition he deserved.
He had a full life but there was
so much left for him to do.
But on January 21, 2012, "HPD 3018" made
his Final "10-42"

God Bless you and your service, your watch is over!

Aloha Garret,

Your smiling face will be missed at the Wahiawa Station. Thank you for your dedication to our community and to our department. Being a "Hero" twice in one year is rare, but you did it and you will never be forgotten. A hui hou my brother in blue. Mahalo Ke Akua.

Garret,

I'm going to miss seing your smiling face patrolling my neighborhood. I always looked forward to hearing about your baby girl......you were such a loving father. Our department has lost a great officer, but more so, we have lost our friend and brother. I hope you know how much we love you. Your entire HPD Ohana, and especially your brothers and sisters of the 161 and District 2, are hurting.

You once expressed to me your concern over not being able to be with MacKenzie as much as you wanted to. I told you not to worry, and that when she got older she would understand and realize what a great guy you are and how much you love her. My friend, I promise you she WILL know, because we will make SURE of it! MacKenzie will know that her daddy is a HERO! That he gave his life to save the lives of 2 other people!

Aloha a hui hou......my brother in blue.

I'm the Deli Clerk at Mililani Safeway, that fed Officer Davis, and his partner Officer Kerris, for the better part of last year, until today. His favorite was the Tuscan Chicken, and he brought several of his fellow officers one nite to get the large one! I joked that they might be having a convention out there. We talked a bit about his service. And that I knew a few fellow officers. He even brought his girlfriend in one night for sandwiches, and for me to meet. I didn't know he had a dtr, but I told him about my son, who was a bit older than he. He came regularly for his meal, after that, and I always reminded him to be careful, and safe out there. And so grateful for his service. I just recently came to Christ, and had a feeling that Christ was in his heart. The bright blue eyes, and smile, always patient. And tonite at candle light service, pastor said they found a Bible in his belongings. He's with Jesus, and his love lives in the hearts of all the lives he has touched.

"The Final Inspection"

The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges
can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.

There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."
