Reflections for Park Ranger Margaret A. Anderson

Dorothy and Paul,
This year (2024) I am honored to ride with LE United (NJ Division) for Margaret. She attended the Park Ranger Law Enforcement Academy at NAU before I started teaching there. The classroom is named in her memory and every time I am there I see her photograph and am reminded of her sacrifice.

Please feel free to reach out to me at the Queen Creek Police Department in Arizona, if you have any questions or plan on attending Police Week in DC.

10 years ago January 1st. our beloved daughter, Margaret, gave her life to protect the people at Paradise on Mount Rainier. We have always been very proud of what she did and who she was throughout her life. Our hearts still grieve over what should have been. We find ourselves saying, "Margaret would have loved this" or "Remember when Margaret did or said..." Margaret is deeply missed by us, her Mom and Dad, along with her brother, sister, husband and their families. Her daughters are growing up to be caring and sweet girls. She would have loved to see how well her husband is raising them.

Ranger Margaret Anderson, I will always remember your professional no-nonsense demeanor melting away when you talked to my family while we visited Mount Rainier once. You were so sweet to my little boy and girl and I will never forget what you told me. “This mountain is the perfect place for kids.” Thank You Always for keeping it so.

You served and sacrificed while on duty as part of that “thin blue line”. Doesn’t matter if the uniform is blue, Green, tan, etc. It doesn’t matter the color of your skin. It doesn’t matter what your Gender is.
I’m a retired LEO, and I know without any doubt, if one chooses to put on a badge to serve the “greater good”, and while doing so, loses life or limb, that is exactly the definition of HERO! Thank You! God be with Your Family!

The grief of losing Margaret nine years ago hasn't diminished. The grief is in the lost phone calls, laughter, family pictures, and the warm hugs. The grief is in Margaret not being the Mom that she was supposed to be because she was amazing and she deserved to be happy and old with Eric. I just miss you my friend.

It’s been 9 years since we lost a friend and coworker in Margaret. Those who never knew her lost a protector they didn’t know existed. The Bible says no greater love than to lay your life down for another. She gave her life that day for dozens that didn’t even know they were in danger, people she had never or only briefly met. They went home to families and friends to live their lives, she didn’t go home to her family that day. Anyone who knew her would tell you she would still protect everyone there that day again. That’s the person and Ranger she was.

Nine years ago today Officer Anderson saved numerous lives by blocking that roadway with her vehicle. I remember her directing our vehicle to a parking spot as we were one of the first vehicles to arrive.
We were 4 of the 125 people whose lives she saved that day.
We will never forget her.

Nine years ago we lost our precious daughter. She loved her family and loved God as a woman of faith. She was a friend to all. She had a funny side and was a friend to all. She loved to learn and loved all of nature. As she wrote in the Acknowledgements of her Master's Thesis, "pure happiness and curiosity is where it all begins. " We will always miss our beloved Margaret.
