Reflections for Master Public Safety Officer Edward Scott Richardson

Lord Jesus, as we watch America’s Peace Officers succumb to the wicked and evil in this world, Shot and Killed in the Line-of-Duty, it becomes difficult for us to pick up and move forward. Our communities are on the brink of exploding with tension. In light of the peace officers who are no longer with us, I pray for endurance for our communities and law enforcement agencies. Carry us through this time of strife, that through our struggles, our bonds may grow even more unbreakable. In Your mighty and holy name, I pray. Amen.

Holy Scriptures on Law Enforcement’s Mission:

“For the policeman [peace officer] does not frighten people who are doing right; but those doing evil will always fear him. So if you don’t want to be afraid, keep the laws and you will get along well. The policeman [peace officer] is sent by God to help you. But if you are doing something wrong, of course you should be afraid, for he [the peace officer] will have you punished. He [the peace officer] is sent by God for that very purpose. Obey the laws, then, for two reasons: first, to keep from being punished, and second, just because you know you should.” [Romans 13:3-5 TLB]

[Jesus Said,] “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” [John 15:13 ESV]

And he [Jesus] said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.” [Luke 23:43 ESV]

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons [children] of God.” [Matthew 5:9 ESV]

“And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.” [Isaiah 6:8 ESV]

I'm sitting at home sick today. Going through YouTube videos I came across this heartbreaking video of Ofc. Richardson's murder. I realize it's been 5 years ago and I didn't know him but I shed tears when I saw how senseless and depraved this murder was. I am so sorry this happened. I'm especially sorry for his wife and children.

I attended the local Warrior Mindset training by Lt. Col. Dave Grossman and Calibre Press a few weeks ago. Scott was mentioned during the training seminar, as well as others who have given their lives in service. Thank you Scotty for your sacrifice and you are still remembered. My prayers continue to go to the family and the agency in this tragic loss and the future you must face without Scotty present. May God Bless and keep you.

Amelyn: I hope you are still coming here periodically to see that Scotty is not forgotten. I have moved around the corner, but still sometimes drive down the old street. I can see Scotty mowing the lawn or playing in the yard with the boys. I thought about you all over XMas...."celebrating" the holidays one year after Scotty was called from this earthly life. I think about him each time I pass through Aiken..just like today as I drove to Atlanta. I miss having Scotty next door and knowing his watchful eye fell on my home, just like it fell on the Aiken community while he was on duty. I miss our friendly chats over the fence. And I miss watching him with your boys. I miss the four of you too. I hope to see you all soon, and hope life is becoming more settled. Rest assured, Scotty is still in our hearts and we keep his memory alive. Call me sometime or stop by when you are in the old neighborhood.
