Reflections for Sergeant David Ernest Enzbrenner

Lord Jesus, as we watch America’s Peace Officers succumb to the wicked and evil in this world, Shot and Killed in the Line-of-Duty, it becomes difficult for us to pick up and move forward. Our communities are on the brink of exploding with tension. In light of the peace officers who are no longer with us, I pray for endurance for our communities and law enforcement agencies. Carry us through this time of strife, that through our struggles, our bonds may grow even more unbreakable. In Your mighty and holy name, I pray. Amen.

Holy Scriptures on Law Enforcement’s Mission:

“For the policeman [peace officer] does not frighten people who are doing right; but those doing evil will always fear him. So if you don’t want to be afraid, keep the laws and you will get along well. The policeman [peace officer] is sent by God to help you. But if you are doing something wrong, of course you should be afraid, for he [the peace officer] will have you punished. He [the peace officer] is sent by God for that very purpose. Obey the laws, then, for two reasons: first, to keep from being punished, and second, just because you know you should.” [Romans 13:3-5 TLB]

[Jesus Said,] “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” [John 15:13 ESV]

And he [Jesus] said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.” [Luke 23:43 ESV]

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons [children] of God.” [Matthew 5:9 ESV]

“And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.” [Isaiah 6:8 ESV]

John 5:28, 29 - "Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out". I pray that everyone can find peace in knowing that we will see this officer as well as many others again in Paradise soon. Until then, please accept my condolences.

Thanks for all the great comments. It is nice to know people care and comforting even after it has been almost four years and I am just now reading these comments. I miss my man SO MUCH! It is always interesting to read others' takes on someone so close. You sometimes don't realize the ripples of one's affect on others outside your small world. He did make a difference....in ALL he did. His girls are well and know how to appreciate life (even w/out him) but they got off to a Super start with a SuperDave dad. I am thankful and blessed to have had him as long as we did and we are better because of him and our God who gets us through this crazy world. He was put here "FOR GOOD" and we can't wait to SEE HIM AGAIN! Will LOVE you FOREVER!

Sergeant Enzbrenner was a good man, that really made a difference in our lives, schools, and community as a whole. I job shadowed at the police station as a middle schooler. I was super nervous (as any kid would be) when i got there. Enzbrenner greeted me and just had a calm, confident demeanor along with a sense of humor that made me idolize police officers and really made me feel at home. Although i didn't job shadow him, he being the generous guy he was, ended up buying me a huge lunch. Boy could he put away some food. haha Rest In peace Seargent Enzbrenner, Your sacrifice is not forgotten.

As we approach it being one year since you were taken from us, I saw this written on a statue and thought of you: Unseen and unheard but always near, so loved, so missed and so very dear. Missing you daily.

Your friend.

Dave I worked with you for several years on the APD. I always admired your devotion to your family and your ability to remain cool under presssure. It seemed that you knew everyone in town and they knew you. I remember sitting at Cues and talking about sports . I cannnot believe that was over twenty years ago.
When I recieved the call that night from John Nahrebeski about what had happend I was floored. You and I had not talked for years but I felt that I had a sense of loss I could not explain.
May the love of God surround your family in the time of their great loss
Give Father Tom a hug for me .

Dave....I'm sorry it took me awhile to talk with you. I visited your grave today. I haven't felt this extreme sense of loss since my Mother died. You remember. You setup the escort for my family to the cemetery and you and your Officers did a truly magnificent job of that duty. I remember helping to train you all those years ago. Such an excellent young man with a spirit that couldn't be dampened by us "veterans". No matter what we threw at you you came up smiling, laughing and learned. You even eventually put up with us calling you "Goob"! I helped teach you to enforce the law. You taught me to fish. I can't believe it was 24 years ago. It seems like yesterday I chased you down the hallway at the station while you tried so hard to balance your "spit cup"! You backed me up, I backed you up, we had many adventures together back in those long ago days. I've written stories about you. I missed you when I left. I miss you now, even more. Rest easy my little brother in the badge. You will live in my memory as you have for 18 years now, and I know you'll be there to welcome me home when my time comes. To the best of the Blue, Sgt. David Enzbrenner. I love you buddy.

I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiance Dennis. Every time I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the officer they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Sergeant Enzbrenner. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. (The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. I can also be found on Face Book.) You will be in my thoughts.

From reading the reflections left for David he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember David's life and the MAN that he was. Remember that David's life was about so much more than the way he died. David will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.

Sergeant Enzbrenner, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my late fiance Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been nine years and he's still very much missed and forever loved.

Wishing you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)

In A Solemn Wind .......

In a solemn wind
With the sound of a solemn rain, may you think of me
In trees that aren't quiet so long
And even .......
In slender trees, the heavy trees,
In fruit trees laden and proud, may you think of me
With lifted branches to the wind
And even those that ....
Bow to the solemn sound,
And every tiniest blade of grass, may you think of me...Deepest Sympathy To The Family And Friends Of Sergeant David Enzbrenner

I would say i don't understand how these people can just kill a man for nothing who is trying to make a living to support himself and his family. The truth is... i do know why. They think for some reason we are the causes of their misfortunes and those people are what i call idiots. RIP brother this was senseless and another act of cowardness.
