JD you will be greatly missed. I was in shock when i saw the 5am news Monday morning and heard the news that you were gone. I could not believe it. I had just seen you the Wednesday before and we all talked for about an hour, which you always talked to all of us. I am thinking about your son and your family, my prayers are with all of them. I know that we are being watched by our JD in heaven...God has a wonderful angel with him now. RIP my friend, you will be missed.....

See you again one day,
Patti

In Honor of your Sacrifice and for your family and friends, I salute you as a HERO!

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Deputy Paugh step forward now for the Final Inspection , and go forward and rest in peace. We will have your beat from here. May God bless your family and dept in the coming days. When the radio is silent and the shot's are fired and taps fades away. Deputy Paugh you will never be forgotten. *RIP*

For Deputy Sheriff James "JD" D. Paugh:

The law officer on patrol is a front-line soldier who has the responsibility of "checking things out" regardless of the time and the location. "JD" fits into yet a special breed of patrol officer because he takes it upon himself because, whether officially on-duty or off-duty he steps-up to accepting his role as both one who assists and one who investigates. It is unfortunate that "JD", while rendering the best-possible brand of service to others, would meet with a low-life, who like all wretched and despicable cowards who kill law officers, takes to then dispatching his miserable self. We regret losing a brother officer in this mindless and senseless act against one of our own.

We pray for JD's family, friends, co-workers and all who care about him. May they be ready to reach-out to one another in the days ahead.

We are proud to render Deputy "JD" Paugh, a soldier-of-the-law and an unusual hero, a final salute.

Pennsylvania State Police

Sir, You gave the ultimate sacrifice for your fellow man. Your place in Heaven is reserved for you, and all Law Enforcers like you. God bless your family and loved ones. I thank all Law Enforcers that do what they do, especially in these days in time, the criminal element has become so abundant and evil, that no one is safe anymore. There is not one Law Enforcer that gets paid what they should be getting paid.

With the way the world has become, it takes very special men and women to be Law Enforcers. The Laws were not written for the good folks it was written for those that have a hard time doing what is right. To put yourself in the midst of those that can not seem to do what is right and be God fearing folks, is extremely admirable. Thank all of you Law Enforcers who face the evil element on a day to day basis. If it were not for you, the world would be in total chaos!

Rest in peace my brother in blue.

Evil will never prosper as long as heroes such as yourself fight for good.

I hope in time your family and agency finds peace in your passing.

Enjoy patrol in heaven. I will see you up there one day.

Sir, your conduct that fateful night exemplifies what being "one of the good ones" is all about. You stopped when you didn't have to and many wouldn't have. When attacked, you fought back bravely against overwhelming odds for as long as you possibly could. Had you not made that stop, will we ever know how many innocent motorists...the girlfrend...other officers...could have been killed by your assailant? Thank you sir, for a career well done, you died a warrior and a hero - rest easy, your watch has been taken over and your memory will never die.

There are no words that can or ever will describe the loss, the pain, and the emotions that we are all feeling. There are so many things to be said about JD that it would take a lifetime to get through. My heart goes out to his former wife, his step-son and his son, who are also great people, as well as to the rest of his family, brothers, sisters, parents and co-workers. He is one that can never be replaced. JD, your End of Watch on Earth was cut short on 10-23-2011, however, your Beginning of Watch from above began on that day and knowing that you are with us all in spirit, I know you will still be with us and protect us. God Bless you JD and FLY HIGH T-31.

Waking up Sunday morning and learning that one of your friends has been murdered while you slept is something I will never forget. Tears immediately rolled down my cheeks as images of J.D. ran through my mind. I had not seen him in a few years, but I'll miss him forever. Losing a friend is always hard, but to have him taken from us in such a horrific manner is almost too much to bear. His family and friends are in my thoughts. RIP brother and we'll meet again one day.
