Reflections for Patrolman Derek Kotecki

May God hold Patrolman Kotecki in His loving hands. My prayers for his family, friends and fellow officers. K-9 Benny was a good and faithful partner and served Kotecki until the end. His service will be remembered and he will be loved until he meets his partner at the Rainbow Bridge.

The Officer stood and faced his God, which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes where shining just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, Policeman, how shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek? To my church have you been true?"
The Officer squared his shoulders and said, "No Lord, I guess I ain't. Because those of us who carry a badge can't always be a saint."
"I've had to work most Sundays, and at times my talk was rough, and sometimes i've been violent, because the streets are mighty tough."
"But I never took a penny, that wasn't mine to keep, though I worked a lot of overtime, when the bills just got too steep."
"And I've never passed a cry for help, though at times I shook with fear, and sometimes, God forgive me, I wept unmanly tears."
"I know I don't deserve a place among the people here. They never wanted me around, except to calm their fears."
"Lord, if you have a place for me here, it needn't be so grand. I've never expected or had too much, but if you don't I'll understand."
There was silence all around the throne, where the saints had often trod, as the Officer waited quietly for the judgement of his God.
"Step forward now Policeman, you've borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets, you've done your time in Hell."

Almighty Father, eternal God, hear our prayers for Your son, Derek whom You have called from this life to Yourself. Grant Derek light, happiness, and peace. Let him pass in safety through the gates of death, and live forever with all Your saints in the light You promised to Abraham and to all his descendants in faith. Guard him from all harm and on that great day of resurrection and reward raise him up with all Your saints. Pardon his sins and give him eternal life in Your kingdom.
