You can shed tears that he is gone, or you can smile because he has lived. You can close your eyes and pray that he'll come back, or you can open your eyes and see all he's left. Your heart can be empty because you can't see him, or you can be full of the love you shared. You can turn your back on tomorrow and live... yesterday, or you... can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday. You can remember him only that he is gone, or you can cherish his memory and let it live on. You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back. Or you can do what he'd want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on

Very sorry for this loss. may he fly with the angles and will always be watching over his loved ones

Aloha, My name is Vengi Tootoo, Eric Fontes is a close friend and brother always talking about God and family. Me and my wife Nalani Aipoalani-Tuaoi-Tootoo was greatly affected by the accident. It was hard to hold back feelings and tears because his smile kept running into our memories. He will be dearly missed as he rejoices in Heaven.

I have also received a letter fom my brother in the Honolulu Federal Holding Detention where Eric has reached out to the imates to make a positive change. This is from the inmates --oh that officer that passed away wensday eric fontes is a real good n GOD fearing man, he was one of our volunteers that came out to share GODs word with us n cared very much about people like myself. he didnt judge but jus shared GODS word that we may change our old ways. his las sharing to us was that he loves coming here to fellowship wit us cause not that we need the change but he does. change was our last subject shared wit him, he will be dearly missed by all the brothers here. if you could pls post something on face book or anywhere people can read that dis man of GOD made a difference in alot of our lifes in his prison ministry, n our hearts n prayers to his families, he also shared with us once that dont be sad if something happens to him but to rejoice that he is in a better place den this world. n he will always be remembered by his invinsible ukulele that he always plays with a song. GOD BLESS. pls dnt forget to post to show the world that GODS people r everywhere, even in prison n pray 4 his family on sunday.

Eric "Moloka'i" "Fonzie" Fontes.....police brother, personal friend and exceptional human being. Thank you for always having enough faith for me and everyone around us.

For those of you who never met Eric, let me briefly describe him to you. (because I dont have enough room on this computer to completely describe how I knew him).

I never saw a sour look on his face. He had the biggest, brightest smile you could imagine and always had something nice to say. You couldn't help but to be in a good mood after talking to Erc. He always had words of encouragement and positive things to say and he was a kind, generous and humble man.

He always spoke of how much he loved his family and his hometown of Moloka'i. Just listening to him speak about his memories and experiences in Moloka'i made me want to go there and see what it was all about. I think I will make that trip some time real soon!

To the Fontes Ohana, my prayers are with you always. Thank you for sharing Eric with me and for supporting him in being one of our HPD Ohana.

We played a softball game last night (09-15-11). About midway through the game it began pouring rain. As I stood way out in center field, I looked up at the sky, not a cloud in sight, I knew it was braddah Eric sending down his blessings!
I know he is happy being with God. If there is anyone I know that would be joyus in heaven, it is Eric.

Bidding you the fondest Aloha,

I have not had the honor of working with or meeting Officer Fontes, but I wish I had the chance. We lost another great Officer in the line of duty due to someone else's mistake. They train us on how to handle just about everything, but when you hear you have lost a fellow Officer it hits home. My thoughts and prayers go out to Officer Fontes, his Family and HPD. Thank you for your service Officer Fontes and RIP knowing we will never forget you.
