Reflections for Police Officer Jeremy Nicholas Henwood

As a retired Police Officer and Army 'Nam Vet myself, I salute you, my brother, for your service and commitment to this Great Nation while wearing the uniforms of the Corp and the San Diego Police Department. You are a sterling example of one of our hero's. My condolences to the family and friends of Officer Henwood, and the San Diego Police Department.

Thank you Officer Henwood for your years of service to our country, and for your dedication and service to the community you served so selflessly. You will never be forgotten. My brother Leroy was also a veteran, and was killed in the line of duty in Louisiana in 1972.

Day in and day out I work with officers in NY. Most are just going through the motions of their day. Everytime I get angry at them I read your story and remember that you are part of the breed that protects and helps us to stay safe. I hope more officers were like you. It would certainly make everyone love the NYPD and San Diego police dept.
I hope more people are aware of the great man you were.

I am in a police academy here in Ohio. The other day our instructor was talking about police officers killed in the line of action and showed us many videos about the heroic officers. Out of all of the videos I connected most with you. I will be honest, after learning of your story I had to hold back tears because I hope to be half the officer you was. The reason I'm going into this profession is because I grew up alone. I had a mother but she worked all the time. I took care of myself and became my own Dad. Some days I get depressed because I missed out on so much like learning to hunt, fish, and play sports. I only wish to be the man I never had in my life and to one day help a kid like myself. I believe you was that man. You made a difference and I only wish I could have met you and you could have made a difference in my life. Now that I think about it.... you have. You have made a difference in my life. Though I never knew you, YOU ARE MY ROLE MODEL

I also just recently ran across the various videos regarding this heroic officer, and his good deeds just before his death. What an amazing guy. I would be honored to have shaken this wonderful officer's hand. May he rest in peace, as his actions continue to grace this world each and every day...

I sought out the information on this fine officer because of a video I recently saw (). What a fine man Officer Henwood seems to have been. A truly terrible and senseless loss!

There is a video trending on YouTube about you Jeremy. Well deserved attention as to the type of person you were. Too bad the attention came after your tragic death. God bless you and your family. I hope that young man makes it to the NBA and remembers you and your sacrifice for him and his community.

I am a Youtube subscriber who happened to come across the story of Officer Henwood. His story touched me, so I decided to take a moment to honor him. My condolences goes out to the family the Officer. Based on the news story about Mr. Henwood, he obviously was an exceptional police officer, which makes his name honored! That one act of random kindness meant a lot not only to the little boy, but to those aspiring to be police officers, such as myself. Although he will be sorely missed by his family and friends, he definitely did not leave in vain; he did what all cops are sworn to do: he made a difference!!!

My heart is heavy beyond measure right now. Its 09/21/2013 and Im just seeing this incident and I have tears in my eyes as I write this reflection. I can only say 2 things to this tragic act. #1- to the family of my fallen brother, your pain is not alone. And Jeremy is smiling down on us in heaven. #2- I ask this question to us all.............What does it take??????????? What does it take to change the essence of a mans mind not to take such a precious thing as life that GOD has given us??????????????? WHAT DOES IT TAKE??????????

The story of Officer Henwood's last shift is very touching. After being in this line of work there are not many things that get to me emotionally. This one is different. May you forever rest in peace sir. It is such a shame that your valuable life was cut short by a worthless degenerate.

Officer Henwood I remember the day I heard about your passing and how for once the media didn't bash on police. I was going to school at the time and thought of myself as a good guy but you showed caring for another human by just buying cookies. It probably seemed like a small gesture but still this act is what I believe policing is about helping people not always by buying them cookies but by being there for them. Officer Henwood I will never forget you. Remember heroes last a lifetime but legends live forever and you sir are a legend in my book.

Officer Henwood, through a simple act, touched a life, and left a lasting impression on that young child he helped through showing a little kindness. Though he may not be here... Let us never forget the impact he had on someone else through opening his heart for a stranger, and use his example to ourselves show kindness to those around us.

I just watched the youtube video of the NBC News story of Officer Henwood's final act of kindness. His encounter with a young boy at McDonalds only minutes before he is murdered. This random act brings chills to my body and tears to my eyes, I hope and pray that each day that I put on my star that I can try to touch someone as Officer Henwood did this child.
