I did not know Jeremy Henwood but my heart aches for your loss. I understand all too well unfortunately what it means to lose one in the line of duty, because I am a police widow. My husband Jeff Mitchell was killed in October, 2006 from a gunshot wound to the head.

My heart and prayers go out to the Henwood family as I know they are preparing for some difficult memorials coming up in May. Please know that you are not alone in your grief.

This year I will be riding for my husband Jeff in the Police Unity Tour. The PUT is a 300 mile bike ride where law enforcement officers and surviving widows "Ride for Those Who Died." The primary purpose of the Police Unity Tour is to raise awareness of Law Enforcement Officers who have died in the line of duty. The secondary purpose is to raise funds for the National Law Enforcement Officer’s Memorial and Museum.

I will also be riding in honor of Officer Jeremy Henwood. I will have a braclet that I will wear for Jeremy the entire 300 miles. After which, I would love to give it to the family.

My first year back in DC, a Rocklin Police Officer who I did not know at that time rode for my husband. When he found me and gave me the braclet in DC, I was very touched and surprised as I was unaware of the PUC.

We start the ride on May 9th and will be riding into the National Law Enforcement Memorial on May 12th (usually) around 2:00 pm. For more information about the Police Unity Tour, please visit our website at http://www.unitytournorcal.com/ and http://www.policeunitytour.com/.

If anyone has any information that would assist me in providing the bracelet to the family, please feel free to send me a facebook message. God Bless Officer Jeremy Henwood and his family. My heart is with you.

Sincerely,

Crystal Crystal Gehringer Mitchell.
Widow to Deputy Jeffrey Mitchell (EOW 10-27-06).

To the family and Brothers in Arms of Officer Henwood. My deepest condolences and prayers go out to you all. I am a former Texas Peace Officer and just saw the video of the kind act Officer Henwood did for the little boy at McDonalds just before his demise. God has a SPECIAL place in Heaven for fallen Heros like Jeremy. I am convinced God has a special place in his heart for those who are willing to put their lives at risk for others. I pray that God will embrace him and cherish him as he was cherished by his friends and family here on earth. May God also bless all of you left behind and give you strength and peace until you meet him again.

My deepest condolences to your family. I just saw a story about you. You were in a McDonalds and you bought a little boy some cookies. Just that act alone shows what an amazing human being you were. Bless you for your service both in the military and the police dept. what a great loss this world suffered when it lost a man like you. I pray for comfort for your family from the pain of loss that I know to well as my own husband was an officer killed in the line of duty. God Bless!

My heart felt condolences to the family. What a nice human being to help the little guy out.It is officers like Jeremy that counters officers with attitude problems.A citizen might has a neg. experience with a cop that thinks he is bigger than the badge which gives the citizen a tainted picture on how cops are and then the citizen meets a cop like Jeremy which changes the attitude of the citizen for the better.Good for all the good cops out there that serve their city and department well, there are a lot of them thank GOD! As a former correctional officer at a maximum security prison I had to deal with some unsavory characters, but I knew who I was dealing with.As a cop one never knows what will happen to them on the street. My hat is off to all the men and women who do their best to keep us safe.Semper Fi.

Jermey Henwood may God Bless you and your family. Im truly saddend to hear what happened on August 7, 2011. My heart sunk when I heard the news that another police officer lost their life to another person who has no regard for others.

Its people like you who truly make a differance in our communities. Because of your dedication to our god, country, corps and the City of San Diego I never want you to be forgotten.

Our paths may have crossed so many times. Previously, you and I were in Afghanistan. You served my home community, where I drove to work everyday. You were active in the same athlete's club, TCSD, which embodies a social/positive, building and sharing experience running, biking and swimming. Such huge great potential, making it a great loss.

I truly am sorry to read about your loss, as I sit in Afghanistan on my second year deployment. San Diego lost a great friend, officer, and your family lost a great deal more. Rest in peace and my condolences to his friends, family and comrades.

It was my honor to serve in the same Marine Corps, to live in the city, and sadly, to run in the Jeremy Henwood Memorial Run.

Your service was lifelong and we are better for it.

Part of our annual Shop with a Sheriff program was dedicated to Officer Henwood this year. A gift card in the amount of $63.78 was given to one of the parents for them to pay the good deed forward. Officer Henwood served our country and community with respect and we hope to keep his spirit alive in our community.

I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiance Dennis. Every time I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the officer they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Officer Henwood. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. (The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. I can also be found on Face Book.) You will be in my thoughts.

From reading the reflections left for Jeremy he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember Jeremy's life and the MAN that he was. Remember that Jeremy's life was about so much more than the way he died. Jeremy will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.

Officer Henwood, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my late fiance Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been eight & a half years and he's still very much missed and forever loved.

Wishing you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)

To the family and friends of Officer Jeremy Henwood, his fellow officers, and most especially to Officer Henwood:

We honor your service to your community as a police officer and to your country as a Marine Officer ,and you will always be remembered and revered. Rest in Peace. Semper Fi.

On behalf of our entire family, I wish to extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Jeremy was killed in the line of duty. It is obvious he was well-loved by many and well-respected by his peers as reflected in the loving reflections left for him.

May his loved ones continued to be supported by their law enforcement family and other police survivors. Our family grieves with you and for you. My son was also his brother in green as well as in blue...he, like Jeremy was a Marine Captain and was stationed for two years in San Diego. To Jeremy's parents, you are in my heart's embrace today. Losing a beloved child has to be life's greatest sorrow and I pray for your solace.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the distinquished service Jeremy gave to his community and the citizens of California, and the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on August 7, 2011.

Officer Henwood was a Marines Marine. I was deployed with him this last time in Afghanistan. He was always very polite and fair with all of his Marines under him. He was a Marine Captain and a very good one at that. The news of his death came as a shock to all the Marines that knew him. You will always be remembered for your compassion while on and off duty. You truly did live the motto of Semper Fidelis. See you on the other side my brother.

I remember that day so very well and I knew something huge was going on. I was about a mile from you that day while my family and I were on vacation. I heard all the sirens and watched more than 50 patrol cars pass me on the highway responding your way. It makes me sick to my stomach this p.o.s. suspect drove up to your cruiser and took your life. You are a hero for serving our country in the USMC, along with 3 tours of duty, then continued to risk your life as a police officer. God bless your soul Marine. You will not be forgotten Marine.
