Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Jermaine Anthony Gibson

I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiancé Dennis. Every time I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the officer they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Officer Gibson. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. (The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. I can also be found on Face Book.) You will be in my thoughts.

From reading the reflections left for Jermaine, he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember Jermaine's life and the MAN that he was. Remember that Jermaine's life was about so much more than the way he died. Jermaine will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.

Officer Gibson, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my late fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been eight years and he's still very much missed and forever loved.

Wishing you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)

We met when I was only 14 years-old. We were young, but had the passion for law enforcement in us. You brought a certain style to the Richmond Explorer Post and I was proud to work with you. I knew you would excell in life. I remember how I exclaimed, "There he is!" when I saw you on COPS.

These 14 years have gone by too fast. Although you are gone, you will not be forgoten. You have brought so many people closer together even though you are not with us. We will always remember you and continue to serve our communites in rememberance of you. Rest in peace my freind, brother and fellow officer.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Gibson family and the entire Cathedral City Police Dept. I was brought to tears at your services when I saw your wife and baby boy. I ask God to watch over them in these hard times.

You were truly an American is every sense of the word. A United States Marine, with multiple tours in the Iraqi campaign and as a Police Officer. People will live a lifetime and not achieve what u did in 28 years.

Rest in peace brother.

You had all 5 of us back in the empty detective bureau for PT. A female explorer was calling out cadences and you asked her to get us to attention. She called out loudly, "Explorers, atten-hut!" Never having been one to let a moment of criticism pass, you promptly asked the explorer, "Atten-hut? Are you saying atten-hut? It that like Pizza Hut, or Sunglass Hut?" We couldn't help but burst out in laughter, and you couldn't help but make us pay for the outburst. "Front leaning rest." You demanded, then continued to turn around and walk out of the detective bureau to leave our arms shaking indefinitely. Thank you for all the PT, Jermaine, and for making us run around the station perimeter 5 or 6 times, even in the 115 degree DHS summer. You will be missed, Gibson. Now whenever I'm called to attention, I can't help but smile, though I wont dare laugh.

I didn't know you, but I am so sad for you and your family. My husband and I are in the law enforcement field, and I can't even imagine the pain your family is going through. It saddens me that your son won't know what a wonderful man his father was. Your legacy will live on in him. Rest in peace brother, watch over us and keep us safe from your new assignment.

I would like give my condolences to the family of Officer Gibson and his extended family at the Cathedral City Police Department.

I have been in Law Enforcement for 16 years and have seen many of my brothers in Law Enforcement and personal friends fall in the line of duty. It is always hard to hear about a brother that has fallen, while serving his community but it is especially hard when it is someone from your own agency or a personal friend.

I would like to express my feelings of loss and sympathy to the family of Officer Gibson and the Cathedral City Police Department. I would also like to thank Officer Gibson for his dedicated service to the citizens of the city of Cathedral city...

As painfull as it was standing sentry watch over you, it helded to see your pictures. You're squared away and a friggen stud in your Marine dress blues. But the photos of you in your Class A, holding Jr, you absolutely beem with pride. The joy in your smile. I've never seen some one so happy. The good and just are always cut down in their prime. I will never forget your passion for the career, your jokes, your humor. I will never forget your encouragement, consantly asking when I was putting in for full time. We will never be the same with out you here. We will never foget you! Rest in peace Gibson!

We'll all keep 'invading Poland' with our bloused BDUs, in your honor!

Its hard to understand sudden losses like this. Last week, you, your wife and son, Officer Hunter and I were all gathered around a table eating not so great food at the MADD Awards (which in true Marine fashion; you ate all of it and finished first). As soon as your LT showed up, you introduced me to him by informing him about how a little person foot bailed from me and got away (not the whole story by the way).... I think I'm going to miss your brotherly harassment the most. There are certain things only your fellow Marines or LE brothers can laugh with you about and I'm sad that I will never be able to laugh with you again. You were one of the funniest cops I knew and I'm glad I had the honor of working with you. I'll see you again some day Jermaine...
