I came across your name amongst the many pages of heroes on this site and I wanted to stop and leave a reflection. You are a true hero and heroes never die. Continue to keep watch over all of your loved ones. Wrap your wings around all of them so they can feel your presence and your attempt to protect them. You have not been forgotten.

Andy. We saw the film Hero's Behind the Badge last night. I constantly thought about you throughout the film. No different than any other day though as far as the thoughts. RIP my Brother and friend. You will never be forgotten.

Andy,
There isn't a single day that goes by brother that your name and face doesn't cross my mind. Since you have been gone there is an emptiness still within most of us. Some are moving on and others well are still waiting to wake up. I have been busy with fundraisers (go figure huh). I am putting a fund raiser on in Feb 2013 with everything going to your scholarship at the Sandusky Police Academy. I vow to you that I will always as long as God allows me to, to keep your name going and continue the Scholarship fund through the Sandusky Police Academy to Honor you my brother. I know how passionate you were with helping out with the Academy and the Cadets and that is the reason I will always continue to bring funds to your scholarship. You will not be forgotten and I will do my very best to make sure of it. Love ya and miss you dearly.

A Hero may fall but shall never be forgotten. My prayers go out to your family as I hope things get easier for your sis. Sometimes there is justice and other times there is just us. The peacemakers must stick together during these tough times and stand tall. RIP brother you served well.

Today is Dads last day working at SPD. I always thought that once he retired, you and I would still have a good 25 yrs of working together. I miss you soo much, everyone said it would get better with time and that is simply not true, it seems to get worse!! I love and miss you brother!!

ANDREW, AS SAID WITH THE MEMORIAL ITEMS WE LEFT AT THE NLEOM.....I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN PROUD OF YOU, BUT MAYBE MORE SO ON 5-13-12 WHEN YOU WERE FORMALLY ENSHRINED ON THE WALL. ALSO AT THE CAPITAL CEREMONY YOU WERE PUBLICALLY RECOGNIZED DURING THE CEREMONY. I'M NOT TELLING YOU ANYTHING YOU DON'T KNOW. YOU WOULD HAVE ENJOYED ALL THE CEREMONY AND IT WAS DONE RIGHT FOR ALL OF THE 2011 FALLEN OFFICERS. WE ALSO MET ALOT OF GREAT PEOPLE. LOVE YOU DAD

As we "winddown" from DC and National Police Week, I can't help but miss you more!! When we were in DC Julie and I were discussing how "cool" you would have thought the escorted ride from the hotel to the vigil was and all he different departments there were..Julie even called me Andy when I took a picture of the Secret Service Cruiser, then I remembered all the pictures you have of almost everywhere you've been you pose w/ a cruiser so that ones for you!!! I miss and love you big brother more than any words can say!!!!

MAY 3 ,2012......THE FIRST OF THE MEMORIALS TO ATTEND THIS MONTH AT OPOTA. WE'LL SEE HOW WE HANDLE THE SMALLER "DRESS REHEARSAL" FOR THE NLEOM IN D.C. IN TWO WEEKS. I WILL DO YOU PROUD BOY AND AS HARD AS IT IS.....I AM PROUD TO BE YOUR FATHER / FELLOW OFFICER TO BE IN ATTENDANCE TO PAY YOU THE RESPECT YOU DESERVE AT ALL MEMORIALS.

AS MY LAST YEAR TO ATTEND D.C IN UNIFORM, I KNOW WE HAD PLANNED TO GO TOGETHER SO "WE" COULD EXPERIENCE IT TOGETHER. AS YOU HAVE ONLY SEEN PICTURES OF THE TIMES I WENT TO D.C IN PREVIOUS YEARS. BUT WE WILL BE THERE TOGETHER SINCE YOU ARE ALWAYS WITH ME. YOU CAN WATCH FROM ABOVE AND KNOW YOU ARE NOW A PART OF THE ERIE COUNTY POLICE MEMORIAL, OHIO STATE POLICE MEMORIAL AND NLEOM FOREVER. LOVE DAD

Andy, I am aware that you know how much you are missed and thought of. Not a day, or hour for that matter goes by without me thinking of you and/or your family. Your dad is my best friend, and I will never cease being his third shoulder. You and Brad shared so much in common as far as same day hiring, FOP initiation, and that 2 1/2 day probation party. All of which were firsts. Camping season begins soon. As in last year, it will not be near the same without you. I hope you like my memorial to you at my camper. I will be touching it up soon. Becky and I pray for your family constantly. We need you and God to help us along in making some of those prayers come about. RIP my Brother and friend. #2083

Andy, it's been over a year now and I still think about that horrible day my dad called me to tell me a fellow officer had been killed. My father is retired SPD Sgt., Bob Grathwol. I pray for your family daily. Your beautiful wife and darling boys; your mom and dad. Your daddy still struggles with your death and he will every day of his life. I often think about your family and hope that they are doing okay but can anybody really be okay after something like this has happened in their lives. And our lives too! This shooting...I hope justice is served this year. There is no respect for human life anymore. Thank you for all that you did serving the city of Sandusky. Your reward is great Andy; eternal life in the most peaceful and beautiful place on this Earth; Heaven--you have been with God now for over a year. We all miss you. May you rest in peace always. Your friend that you never met, Debbie G.
