Reflections for Deputy U.S. Marshal John Brookman Perry

John,
I had the pleasure of getting to know you and spend time with you at the range when I was an intern. You always had a smile on your face and a joke to tell. Thank you for making me feel like a part of the team and for making me a better shot! Now, I'm a nurse and I honor your spirit during every shift. There's a saying, " Heroes are the people who do what has to be done, when it needs to be done, regardless of the consequences." You will always be remembered as a hero.

John, I just want to thank you for your service, dedication, and for your sacrifice.

I do not recall us ever having met from my time spent in St. Louis, but I still consider you a friend and even a brother. A brother in arms, a brother who is worthy of "going through a door with."

Rest easy Brother.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the first anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

I pray for solace for all those who love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. Your family is in my heart's embrace. Rest In Peace.

JP,
I can't believe it's been a year since you were taken from us; you had so much joy and life left in you, it was way too soon. It was an honor and a priviledge to have worked with you but more importantly to have called you my friend. Even now, whenever I cross the Mississippi to come back to that office, it takes me a few seconds to reconcile that you will not be there with your jokes and your smile. There's been a huge void at our social gatherings, they will never be the same. We miss you. Until the day we get to raise our next glass of beer together, Rest In Peace Brother

JP, it still seems impossible to believe even though a full revolution of the sun has passed.

I am having lunch with Kelly tomorrow, and we will no doubt reminisce about the fun times we all had at school, but we will be sad at the same time. If we could only have had one Regency reunion.

Looking back over the years, it's with a clear vision I see that you were one of the good guys. In fact you were one of the best and funniest dudes I've known over the years. RIP my friend.

JP, I think of you often and still can't make any sense out of it. You were a friend to everyone and that would have included Mr. Boles had he met you under even slightly different circumstances.

I hope our one year here marks some awesome milestone wherever you are; maybe you've completed the Milky Way Criterium or something...

As you would say, "donkey smell" for the memories, and for watching over Laura, Sam, Brooke, Pam, and the rest of your family & friends. You are missed.

Ms. Robtoy, I am so sorry for your loss. I hope you and your family are able to find comfort with eachother.

I am participating in the 2012 Police Unity Tour, if you are unfamiliar, it is a bicycle ride to support the Law Enforcement Memorial. The Maryland Chapter I am riding with will be starting in PA and work our way down to DC. This event takes place during Police Week in May. Every rider selects a fallen officer to ride for and I would be honored to ride for John.

If you wouldn't mind contacting me at I would love to talk to you about it. Again, so sorry for your loss; you and your family are in my thoughts.

Thought of you last night when I got home and found in the mail the Hallmark Christmas ornament sale flyer...you poked fun of me every time I got one of those and picked out my ornaments for the year. The holiday things are out and it makes it harder to accept you being gone. I love you.

John,

We all know that feeling of going through that door without knowing what waits on the other side. And yet, you went anyway because you wanted to make the world a better and safer place......Godspeed man, you will be missed!

We lost you six months ago today and it still feels unreal. I know that they say time heals all wounds but I don't think so. We all miss you so much. The boys are all keeping their promises to you and always checking up on me. Your marshal family came to the MTS Donor Memorial Candlelight Service to honor you for your organ donation. When your name was read and I went to the front to accept the rose, Kyle walked with me and kept me going. You are always in our thoughts..Love you sweetie
