SOLDIER OF THE STREET

DEDICATED TO OFFICER DAVID S. CRANFORD

They are our Fathers, our Mothers. our Sisters, our Brothers
They are our Sons, our Daughters. They are the Soldiers of the street.

They’ve come to fight a different war, one of guns and drugs.

Each night before they work the streets, they leave us with kisses and hugs.

We pray for their safe return, which God so kindly gives.
And allows them to share another day, with their loved ones, families and kids.

But then that dreaded day arrived, and the enemy he did meet.

And with the courage of ten good men, he did battle in the street.

Our soldier fought so hard and long, the battle was so fierce.

And even though he showed such strength, his body still was pierced.

His soldiers came; they tried so hard to keep my soldier here.

But god so gently closed his eyes, something we all fear.

They came from all around the world to bid my solider good-bye.

And even though I believe in God, I still ask the question, why?

My soldier didn’t come home last night, and now I’m all alone.

I no longer fall fast asleep, knowing he’s safely home.

Although I have this tragic loss, I hold my head up high.

For I know he laid down his life protecting you and I.

I cannot bring my soldier back, even though I secretly try.

I must believe he’s in a better place and for this I cannot cry.

In Honor of your Sacrifice and for your family and friends, I salute you as a HERO!

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whose blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Officer David Crawford, you served your community, your department and your family with valor. Your death shocks the righteous to the core, but it is not in vain, sir. You died as a warrior and your values and spirit live on in your family and your fellow officers. Rest in peace, Officer Crawford, we'll take if from here. My heart goes out to the family and extended law enforcement family of the St. Petersburg Police Department. May you find peace during this terrible time.

God Bless Officer Crawford, his family and friends. "I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save.
I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom." Abraham Lincoln

I want to express my sincerest appreciation and heartfelt wishes to the family of Officer David Crawford. My son in law is a detective and a member of our local SWATT team. Due to my closeness to him, I feel such an alliance to all officers and their families, and feel so sad for them when something as senseless and this happens. Officer Crawford seems to have been doing the career he loved, and would have done it to best of his abilities at all cost. This seems to be a grave cost for any Officer to pay.

My thanks to Officer Crawford and all Officers for their love of the job so that those of us in all communities around the nation may feel a bit more safe in our daily lives. Be at peace, for we know Officer Crawford is not far away, and is still watching over those he loves.

"A Policeman was killed last night"

A policeman was killed last night.
He died while protecting your rights.
His creed was to protect and serve.
This fate he didn't deserve.

A mom and dad have lost a son.
So many other jobs he could've done.
His wife and kids are left alone.
Their daddy won't be coming home.

His fellow officers are hurt so deep.
For a fallen brother they weep.
The morning paper will print a story.
About a policeman who died in glory.

The flags will fly at half mast.
Politicians and citizens will seem sad.
The funeral is tomorrow at noon.
It will all be over very soon.

By next week they will have forgot.
That a policeman was killed last night.
