John 5:28, 29 - "Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out". I pray that everyone can find peace in knowing that we will see this officer as well as many others again in Paradise soon. Until then, please accept my condolences.

When I was nominated to be class leader of our Academy Class (1997), I immediately nominated Jay because I wanted nothing to do with the job. He went on to be a great example of calm professionalism and represented our class with nobility. I always dreaded the day I would log onto ODMP.org and see someone I knew. I never dreamed it would be you, Jay. Rest in peace, my friend.

My Hero,
This weekend I shared your birthday with other survivors of fallen officers.... Some are slowly getting their lives somewhat back together, and some are deeply in pain..... That pain will never go away, NEVER!!! I miss you laughter, your beautiful blue eyes, your love of your family, the bear hugs with the soft pat on the back, the long winded prayers... (I would love to hear again) your phone calls, just to say hi!
I am trying to keep watch over Judy, she loves you to this day, and I don't know if she will ever get over you....

You are always in my heart, always in my mind, and I still wear my bracelet everyday, reminding me of my hero and letting others know I have a loving hero in Heaven....

Your niece, decided yesterday she wanted to wear her Uncle Jay medallion.... she was not aware it was your birthday, she out of the blue asked Jenny if she could wear it. So see, a young child, still remembers you and we keep you alive by showing pictures and talking about you!

I miss you Jaybird......
hope heaven is treating you well.
Merry Christmas and Happy Birthday!
love always,

Sis

Jaybird, I am working on your birthday, a special one. I am going to celebrate with other survivors, like me, we are having a BlueLight Dinner and I have made special tea lights (my version of an eternal flame) for all our special fallen officers... I love sharing my love for you with others. I think of you every day. I miss you terribly. You are always in my heart. I hope that you will be watching over us as me and many of your colleages have a special celebration for your birthday.
love you and miss you dearly.

Love you and miss you more and more every day. We all except Dad survived the first anniversary of your EOW.... It was very difficult and Beverly lost Harriet that morning too.... We are proudly going to two memorials to honor the sacrifice you gave to protect your family and community. I will stand proudly with Judy to see your name engraved on the Memorial walls in Tallahassee and Washington..... Your are my hero, and I miss you everyday. We now celebrate Easter with 3 of our family physically missing from the dinner room table, but I know your presence will be there....Take care of Dad as you always have.... until we meet again..
I love you,
Sis

Your heroism and service is honored today, the first anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect and your memory will always be honored and revered. I pray for solace for all those who love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. Your family is in my heart's embrace and I thank them for sharing their devotion to you through their reflections.

Rest In Peace

I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiancé Dennis. Every time I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the officer they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Captain McDonough. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. (The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. I can also be found on Face Book.) You will be in my thoughts.

From reading the reflections left for Jay, he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember Jay's life and the MAN that he was. Remember that Jay's life was about so much more than the way he died. Jay will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.

Captain McDonough, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my late fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been eight years and he's still very much missed and forever loved.

Wishing you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)

While it is no consolation for your loss, my heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family and fellow officers of Captain McDonough.

While I did not have the privilege to have known him personally, I am certain that he has found a place in heaven through his selfless service to those he swore to protect.

Rest in peace my friend; those of us who remain will cover your post on the thin blue line.
