Reflections for Sheriff Walter Albert Salzsiedler

"Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God."

Sheriff Salzsiedler,

You passed years before my time, but you served Campbell County, South Dakota where I still reside.

Your story became my story too 55 years later on Wednesday, August 4, 2004. This was the night that Sheriff John Bechtold tried to revive my son after a fatal car crash.

It was a surreal event for our two families in 2004 and for your family in 1949. Know that a loss like these filters down to the rural communities and the county that you and Sheriff Bechtold served in addition to the surrounding area.

My thanks goes out to you for your service and your willingness to give it your all in the line of duty. My deepest sympathy to your family for their loss.

Resident of Campbell County

Thank you for your service and for helping to make America a safer place.

I am honored to be among the first to leave a tribute to you. Your heroism and service is honored today on the 63rd anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service.

My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer. He was shot twice when ambushed on April 23rd when he was on a foot pursuit of two bank robbers.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

Mom of fallen California Officer Larry Lasater, Pittsburg PD, eow 4/24/05
