Arthur Waggoner Bowman was my mother's father. There were multiple stories about who shot my grandfather and why he was shot. According to newspaper accounts, the man who was accused of shooting him did not die immediately and was taken to a hospital in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The governor received word that a lynch mob was forming so he called the National Guard to surround the hospital to prevent that from happening. I have attempted to find relatives of Arthur's first son, Forrest, without success. I am on Facebook - Judith Wood. I am currently in Estero, Florida.

I am honored to call this man my Great Grandfather. He has shown his family what service and sacrifice means. His son, Forest Bowman, served in the U.S Navy. He was killed in action on Feb. 1st, 1943 aboard the USS DeHaven. His son, A.W. Bowman, served in the US Army during the Cold War. I have the honor of gaining the title of US Marine. My Son, Matthew Bowman, left for Navy Basic Training 3 days ago. He follows the footsteps of his Great Grandfather, Forest Bowman. Arthur Waggoner Bowman, you are not forgotten. I hope our actions have spoken louder than words in honor to you.

This was my grandfather, who's name I proudly carry. According to the family, there is much more to this story. But, that should now be set aside and assigned to history.

I am privileged to be among the first to pay tribute to you. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 81rst anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.
