Chief Smiddy, your attempt to bring a 'man' to justice cost you your life and nearly took the life of your counterpart from Tennessee. I do not mourn the death of your murderer, but you are a Brother and though it's been 89 years, your passing is still a reason for sadness.

How sad also that your death occurred just one year and one month after your predecessor, Chief Bowlin made the same tragic sacrifice.

God Bless and may you forever Rest in Peace, Brother.

Time may have passed but you are not forgotten. I believe as long as someone remembers you or speaks your name, you are still with us.
Thank you for your heroism.
God Bless

Your heroism and service is honored today on the 86th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service.
My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.
