For Officer Dan De Karaai:

The initial training of the law officer is supplemented throughout his/her career so that peak efficiency and current practice is both maintained and up-dated. When the sudden and freak accident occurs during training much investigation and inquiry is sure to follow. Sought is the error and fingers are sure to be pointed at many. None of this diminishes the shock, the horror, and the heart ache associated with this situation. We regret that our brother Dan has become a statistic of what sadly has happened before, and we cringe knowing that it probably will happen again.

We pray for Dan's family, friends, co-workers and all who care about him. Maybe they be ready to reach-out to one another in the days ahead. We pray, that although much healing must occur, that they not abandon all they know of forgiveness. Surely Dan's pride in law enforcement and the natural closeness law officers share will remain in the hearts of those close to him. May God grant that this may be so.

I am proud to render Officer Dan De Kraai a final salute.

Cpl. Ralph D. Fiorenza (Ret.)
Pennsylvania State Police

Dan was a recruit right out of the academy when he applied with our agency! He was tops in the testing phase and we offered him a job and he took it! He worked for us a little over a year and was hired by St. Joe PD. He wanted to work for St. Joe PD and make the SRT...this was his dream...he died doing what he loved....We, the admin staff at Cameron PD, knew when we hired him he was going places...he just had that about him...he gave it his all, no matter how mundane the call or project was....he was an outstanding father, a great husband, an awesome cop and a great friend..he devoted himself to everything he did and to everyone he knew...I miss you more than I can put into words pal!!! My thoughts and prayers are with all of us who knew you and most of all with your family!!!! God Speed warrior...we have the watch from here!!!!!!
