NEVER FORGOTTEN!
At 3:38 am on June 27, 2010, Officer Justin Wayne McGrory of the CHP was struck and killed by a drunk driver while conducting a field sobriety test on I-15 in Barstow. He and his partner had stopped a suspected drunk driver and were administering tests when he was struck. His partner was not injured. The drunk driver who struck him was arrested and charged with vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence of marijuana. Justin was the father of three small children. His fourth child, a daughter, was born on July 20, 2010.
While Justin and I never met I have come to know, respect and admire him. In 2011, I rode in Justin’s honor during the Police Unity Tour. I have had the privilege of meeting some of Justin’s friends and family. They are warm and wonderful people. They think of him constantly. God bless Justin his family and friends. Please keep Justin, his family and so many families like them, that have lost a loved one in the line of duty, in your thoughts and prayers.

"Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted."

NEVER FORGOTTEN!
On June 27, 2010, CHP Officer Justin Wayne McGrory was killed by an act of careless irresponsibility that not only took Justin’s life but caused a lifetime of pain for those who loved him. Although we never met, I have come to know this remarkable young officer through his family and friends. Justin’s Mom and Dad, who met and forgave the man who killed their son, have been role models and an inspiration for me, as has his lovely young widow, left to raise their four children alone. Justin’s last child was born a month after his death. Please keep Justin, his family and the thousands of families who’s loved ones gave their lives in the line of duty, in your thoughts and prayers.
God bless you and your family, Justin, and thank you for your service and sacrifice

I come to this website every once in a while to read about what people had to say about my dad and I never regret it. These messages that you all write give me the chance to know him better through your memories and I really appreciate it and so does my family, especially Kaci since she never got to meet him. I would do anything for her to have known him personally but all she has is everyone else’s experiences. Thank you all so much.

A couple of weeks ago I participated in "The Heroes Ride," a bicycle ride out of Conroe, TX and proceeds go to TX Wheels of Justice to benefit the National Law Enforcement Officer’s Memorial. Each rider was given a wristband with the name of a fallen officer and mine had Officer McGrory's name. I never met him but reading the reflections on this page I can tell he was a very good man who should still be with us. My prayers go out to his family.

Yesterday I heard your father testify before the Senate Public Safety Committee and his testimony was very powerful. I am sure you were proud of his efforts to make California and our justice system better.

Remembering you and your family today and holding them in my heart's embrace.

I met Justin on a Wednesday evening at church. I was called by our Pastor on Sunday, June 27, 2010 to meet with the family at St. Mary's Hospital in Apple Valley, CA to comfort and console them after the accident.

As the Head Elder, at that time, I was volunteering as a minister similar to an assistant pastor when I was requested to respond to the hospital.

I had known Justin's In-laws for many years as well as his wife who were family friends.

Justin's passing was so traumatic to so many people in the Victor Valley. Then when the driver was acquitted it was another shock to the community. While I didn't get to know Justin in a REAL personal relationship, it was easy to see from family and friends, what kind of a person, officer, husband, father and man he was.

This is a real tragic story that I hope is never repeated for any law enforcement family again.

Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

I pray for solace for all those that love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. Thanks to your family and friends for sharing their devotion to you through their reflections. This was such a sad, sad story. You are all in my heart's embrace today.

I remember seeing your family at the Memorial Ceremony in 2011 in Sacramento. It is so heartbreaking to see the young children left behind.

I still remember Justin from the Academy class. He always brought a smile to those around him and found the positive side in everything we did, even those grueling days of PT. Although I did not graduate with Justin, I always knew he would be a fine officer. I am sad to come across my old friend after all this time on this website, but can find some comfort in knowing that he left this world doing what he loved and gave his life so that others may enjoy the liberties and freedoms we come to take for granted. I still remember the CHP creed from the Academy which said a CHP officer would rather lay down his life than swerve from the path of duty. Justin's sacrifice is a reminder of how fortunate we are to have brave men and women willing to place our safety and protection above their own. Thanks for all of your help and peep talks old friend. You will be missed but never forgotten. May the lord bless your family and all the officers everywhere.
