I met Phil (Dennis) Ortiz my sophomore year at St. Monica's HS. We played football together and from that experience became friends. We did some crazy things back then and got into some trouble. I recall setting off 3 firecrackers in our sophomore English class. I lit them and Dennis through them. We get caught and ended up scrubbing grafitti off the walls. We loved listening to Led Zeppelin back then and lifting weights early in the morning. I missed him at our 30 year HS reunion. He was a hard worker in HS and was able to save enough money to buy a brand new 1978 Camaro. May he rest in everlasting Peace.

Yesterday I saw two CHP Officers with the black band on their shields and thought they honor yet another officer down. Thank you for your sacrifice for the people of this state, working to serve the citizens. To your family our prayers and thoughts are with you during the incredibly difficult time. Your sacrifice is the loss for all of us.
I am so sorry.

Officer Ortiz was two years behind me at Saint Monica's High School. As a fellow alumni I would like to thank him for his service to my community for all those years. We are all praying for your wife and family at this most difficult time. You are with God now. Rest in peace.

I will always remember Phil (even though we called him Dennis), as a guy who had a quiet but generous spirit. I went to school with him in our elementary years as well as high school. He helped me with my Algebra homework and was always so caring & patient. Even though we hadn't been in touch for these last years, he will always hold a special place in my heart. I am saddened by his passing and my thoughts and prayers go out to Jessica and the rest of the family. xoxo
