Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Travis Paul Murphy

Lord Jesus, as we watch America’s Peace Officers succumb to the wicked and evil in this world, Shot and Killed in the Line-of-Duty, it becomes difficult for us to pick up and move forward. Our communities are on the brink of exploding with tension. In light of the peace officers who are no longer with us, I pray for endurance for our communities and law enforcement agencies. Carry us through this time of strife, that through our struggles, our bonds may grow even more unbreakable. In Your mighty and holy name, I pray. Amen.

Holy Scriptures on Law Enforcement’s Mission:

“For the policeman [peace officer] does not frighten people who are doing right; but those doing evil will always fear him. So if you don’t want to be afraid, keep the laws and you will get along well. The policeman [peace officer] is sent by God to help you. But if you are doing something wrong, of course you should be afraid, for he [the peace officer] will have you punished. He [the peace officer] is sent by God for that very purpose. Obey the laws, then, for two reasons: first, to keep from being punished, and second, just because you know you should.” [Romans 13:3-5 TLB]

[Jesus Said,] “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” [John 15:13 ESV]

And he [Jesus] said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.” [Luke 23:43 ESV]

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons [children] of God.” [Matthew 5:9 ESV]

“And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.” [Isaiah 6:8 ESV]

After our 72K squad briefed that fateful night I was catching up on reports when you walked by, tapped me on my shoulder and said that you would see me out there. I told you to be safe and that was the last thing I ever said to you.

It’s been over 12 years since then and I’m no longer in law enforcement, but remember you often.

I pray that everyone can find peace in knowing that we will see this officer as well as many others again in Paradise soon. Until then, please accept my condolences.

I saw the memorial badge sticker on the back of a car we came into possession of. Thank you for your service. The reflections I read below are incredibly moving and brought me to tears. I pray your family is protected and I know you’re watching over them.

To family and friends of Officer Travis Murphy,

Yesterday I had the privilege of cycling in the Heros Ride out of Conroe, TX. I had the honor of riding with the wrist band of Officer Travis Murphy.

I understand the pain probably never goes away, but I want you all to know that I was riding 75 miles for him and everyone of you. Please know that his memory is alive and we appreciate all he and his fellow officers do for us everyday.

There were moments during the ride which were a bit less than safe, with a lack of shoulders and cars/ trucks speeding by in close quarters. I couldn't help thinking Officer Travis Murphy was perhaps still safely guiding and caring for his fellow citizens, and maybe especially me as I often gazed down at his name on my wristband.

I will forever keep his wristband and my ride number (2222) as a reminder to never forget. Please stay strong.

thank you!

Rest well my hero and thank you for your service to your department. May your family and co-workers gain strength in time for your loss, and that your memory lives forever in all the people whom you have touched. That evil one will one day meet his maker and be judged and go to hell.

Travis,

I had a chance to stop by your gravesite during this memorial holiday. My kids are finally old enough to understand the sacrifices so many like yourself have given, so I brought them to share in rememberance. I saw there was a fresh red stripe left for you. Drink up my friend, you deserve it. You will not be forgotten, as future generations will be reminded of the sacrifices of those that came before them, who gave all to keep our city safe.

It has been over four years, and I can still remember the phone call I received that day when this tragedy occurred.

I still think about you whenever I think of Officer Ahmetovic and that happens a lot. Your family is always on my mind. I know you are looking down at them and watching over them all the time.

Thank you for the service you provided to the City of Phoenix, I know everyone still misses you and I do too.

I think about every shift. I think to myself "what would Travis do" when I respond to calls. The patrol car is so lonely without ya buddy. Your kids are getting so big. Your wife Danielle, is so strong and beautiful, she gives me strength. The 72K squad misses you and your spirit is still with us.
