Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Don David McCutcheon

John 5:28, 29 - "Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out". I pray that everyone can find peace in knowing that we will see this officer as well as many others again in Paradise soon. Until then, please accept my condolences.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the second anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer

Time never diminishes respect and your memory will always be honored and revered. I pray for solace for all those who love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. Your family is in my heart's embrace today. I share your mom's anguish in losing a beloved child which surely has to be life's greatest sorrow. I am certain when she read the reflection by Bob Gordon she was able to relate to the quote.

My thoughts are with all of your loved ones for I know every day is struggle for them without you being here to protect and guide them. Continue to keep watch over all of them. I wanted to leave the following for your Mom for I know as I walk in her shoes and know the broken heart she has that will never mend:

"Do not judge the bereaved mother...She comes in many forms...She is breathing, but she is dying...She may look young, but inside she has become ancient...She smiles, but her heart sobs...She walks, she talks, she cooks, she cleans, she works, she IS, but she IS NOT...She is here, but part of her is elsewhere for eternity." I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiancé Dennis. Every time I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the officer they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Deputy McCutcheon. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. (The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. I can also be found on Face Book.) You will be in my thoughts.

From reading the reflections left for Don, he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember Don's life and the MAN that he was. Remember that Don's life was about so much more than the way he died. Don will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.

Deputy McCutcheon, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my late fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been seven years and a half years but he's still very much missed and forever loved.

Wishing you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)

I wanted the world to know a little about the dedicated Public servant we have lost and just how much Don meant to us here at the Memphis Police Department. Don was an exceptional man, a devoted father, a good cop and a fierce and loyal friend.
Don was an outstanding Officer and always professional in the performance of his duties. He was always polite and caring when dealing with the public. He treated every one he dealt with fairly and never abused the authority entrusted to him. Don was reliable and was always there when we needed him even if that meant he had to work double shifts or on his days off. Don was a thorough investigator and tried to see every angle in his investigations.
Don had a wonderful sense of humor and was always smiling. He could always be counted on to cheer us up if we were having a bad day and was a constant source of laughter in our department. Don was a true brother to us all and he would go out of his way help you before you even had the chance to ask.
I hired Don three days after he graduated the Police Academy. I will never forget how proud he was when he was sworn in and I gave him his first badge (Badge # 105); he just couldn’t stop smiling. Don loved working here in Memphis and turned down other part-time Officer positions out of loyalty to the city that gave him his start. As a memorial to him the Memphis Police Department will be retiring Don’s badge, number 105. Don was family to us here at the M.P.D. and he will be deeply missed. It was truly a joy to have served alongside him and an honor to have been his friend. We will never forget Officer Don McCutcheon nor his contribution to the City of Memphis.
