Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Walter Kent Mundell, Jr.

Lord Jesus, as we watch America’s Peace Officers succumb to the wicked and evil in this world, Shot and Killed in the Line-of-Duty, it becomes difficult for us to pick up and move forward. Our communities are on the brink of exploding with tension. In light of the peace officers who are no longer with us, I pray for endurance for our communities and law enforcement agencies. Carry us through this time of strife, that through our struggles, our bonds may grow even more unbreakable. In Your mighty and holy name, I pray. Amen.

Holy Scriptures on Law Enforcement’s Mission:

“For the policeman [peace officer] does not frighten people who are doing right; but those doing evil will always fear him. So if you don’t want to be afraid, keep the laws and you will get along well. The policeman [peace officer] is sent by God to help you. But if you are doing something wrong, of course you should be afraid, for he [the peace officer] will have you punished. He [the peace officer] is sent by God for that very purpose. Obey the laws, then, for two reasons: first, to keep from being punished, and second, just because you know you should.” [Romans 13:3-5 TLB]

[Jesus Said,] “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” [John 15:13 ESV]

And he [Jesus] said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.” [Luke 23:43 ESV]

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons [children] of God.” [Matthew 5:9 ESV]

“And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.” [Isaiah 6:8 ESV]

Hi Kent, I was looking at the Detroit LOD tonight, and your LOD page just kind of popped up. I can only hope it was a small sign from you, from the other side. I also got teary eyed reading some of the posts here from, not only here, but around the country and around the world. It opened some old wounds of that time that I had been able to suppress, but not ever forget. I miss you so much my friend, and used to cherish our roadside visits when you were able to get near Spanaway. There was always so much laughter between us and we would talk until one of us got a call. You were a good man and a good deputy. RIP my brother. Keep watch over all men and women on patrol, and keep them safe. We will see one another again.

you know, your stupid jokes and infectious laugh pop into my head at completely random times, all the damn time LOL. Hell, I moved to the other side of the country because there were too many rough memories, and your goofy smile STILL pops into my head. Miss you brother.

Hey Kent....I think of you often. We chatted about having reliable scuba gear just a few weeks...before this happened. I still remember when your Mom called me that night.....weighs on me each day. I hope the family is doing well and pushing forward. Your memorial....was a special event in my life...and I am sure many others. You made a difference Kent...

I worked with Kent as a printer. He was my helper. This is how I got to know " Walter " as I used to tease him with that name. I remember when he came up to me one day and said, I wanna be a cop. I laughed at him saying, how in the hell ya gonna pull that off ? He did. He and his family came over to my house and he pulled up his shirt and there was his Sheriffs Badge on his belt...we had a good time remembering the good old printing days. My wife and I loved Sheriff Mundell to no end. I was not in LE, but to this day, I still think and remember Walter. Love you and we'll see you one day..RIP.

Saw the video of Kirsten's wedding and cried. So proud that your fellow officers showed up for you. As a former dispatcher/911 operator for two LE agencies I am a huge supporter of our LE. My heart breaks for every loss they suffer.

May god continue to watch over you and your family. The video of your daughter's wedding was amazing and your fellow officers dancing with her was an inspiration to me. It shows that we in Law Enforcement never forget or leave anyone behind. God bless.
