Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Walter Kent Mundell, Jr.

Hi Kent, I was looking at the Detroit LOD tonight, and your LOD page just kind of popped up. I can only hope it was a small sign from you, from the other side. I also got teary eyed reading some of the posts here from, not only here, but around the country and around the world. It opened some old wounds of that time that I had been able to suppress, but not ever forget. I miss you so much my friend, and used to cherish our roadside visits when you were able to get near Spanaway. There was always so much laughter between us and we would talk until one of us got a call. You were a good man and a good deputy. RIP my brother. Keep watch over all men and women on patrol, and keep them safe. We will see one another again.

you know, your stupid jokes and infectious laugh pop into my head at completely random times, all the damn time LOL. Hell, I moved to the other side of the country because there were too many rough memories, and your goofy smile STILL pops into my head. Miss you brother.

Hey Kent....I think of you often. We chatted about having reliable scuba gear just a few weeks...before this happened. I still remember when your Mom called me that night.....weighs on me each day. I hope the family is doing well and pushing forward. Your memorial....was a special event in my life...and I am sure many others. You made a difference Kent...
Rest well, Steve

I worked with Kent as a printer. He was my helper. This is how I got to know " Walter " as I used to tease him with that name. I remember when he came up to me one day and said, I wanna be a cop. I laughed at him saying, how in the hell ya gonna pull that off ? He did. He and his family came over to my house and he pulled up his shirt and there was his Sheriffs Badge on his belt...we had a good time remembering the good old printing days. My wife and I loved Sheriff Mundell to no end. I was not in LE, but to this day, I still think and remember Walter. Love you and we'll see you one day..RIP.

Loved the video and corresponding interview about the wedding. The Pierce County family showed what brotherhood and taking care of our own is all about!

Saw the video of Kirsten's wedding and cried. So proud that your fellow officers showed up for you. As a former dispatcher/911 operator for two LE agencies I am a huge supporter of our LE. My heart breaks for every loss they suffer.

May god continue to watch over you and your family. The video of your daughter's wedding was amazing and your fellow officers dancing with her was an inspiration to me. It shows that we in Law Enforcement never forget or leave anyone behind. God bless.

RIP, Ofc Mundell. While its sad that you died the way you did, its comforting that your fellow officers were there for the Father-Daughter dance at your daughter's wedding.

You were the most giving, witty and caring person I have ever met Kent. Whether you were sharing stories about Kirsten and Austin winning races or talking about your upcoming scuba certification, you always wore that infectious smile. You are so very missed today and everyday by so many. Rest in peace.

Every day I go to the gym, I look for my old work-out partner and friend. Recently I ran into your daughter at the gym and it really lighten my heart to see her doing well. Her smile resembles yours, and her ability to meet and make as many friends as you did, gives comfort to all of us there. "Kent, you would be so proud of her".

As a native of WA I often see the news there and remember when this happened. Thinking of your family as this anniversary passes by... I lost my husband in Iraq in 2006 and understand all too well the grief your family continues to battle each day... May you fill your heart with memories of love and laughter you shared with your hero...

Rest in peace.

God Bless you and everything you have done for the state of Washington in fighting crime and making the streets that much safer. Even though I do not live in Washington, I'm sure that everyone that knew you and the ones you have protected in your line of work GREATLY appreciated everything you did for your town and state. Thank you SO much for people like you who protect us in our everyday lives and thank you for stepping up to a job that most people will not!

Our loss is heavens gain. You helped me out with a troubled teen always showing compassion. Kent used to workout at the same gym as I did and we were both into SeaDoo's and flying, he lived life to the fullest. He loved my German Shepard and said he would love to take him home, with I had given Hercules to him. Eatonville is a little more empty without you in it Kent, enjoy soaring with the Angels brother.
