Reflections for Rural Police Officer Ellis A. Shields

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 85th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Rest In Peace

I had the privelege of knowing his daughter Bonnie Shields Eades. She was my adopted grandmother. She married Russell M. Eades and lived in Greenville, SC for many years. Bonnie was a a most loving a knd kind person. I can remember from my earliest memories stories about her father Ellis A. Shields. One of the most admirable traits about her is that even in the tragic events of his death she learned to forgive. She was raised in the Connie Maxwell Children's Home in Greenwood as a direct result of Ellis' death, yet she did not harbor bitterness in her heart. No doubt, the killing of officer Shields changed the lives of his children and family for all time. I only knew his daughter Bonnie who died in 2008 at the age of 90. She held him in the highest esteem even though she was only a small child when he was killed.
