Mrs. Blake, I served with your husband in the 385th Miltary Police Battalion General Support Platoon back in the 80s. We all loved Blake and mourn the loss of a great soldier, military policeman, and brother.

Well it has been 9 years David, 9 years. A lot has happened like I have retired from LE after 13 1/2 years. I think about you and our wonderful friendship almost daily. I wave at you at your resting place every time I visit my dad, y'all are just across the road from each other. I reflect back on our great working relationship in Burnet County the 5 years I was there. They were great times. One of the best place I actually loved to work because of people like you David. You will never be forgotten in my Heart, Mind, and Memory. Your were/are my Brother in Law Enforcement and with you being a Mason and me being an Eastern Star we are bonded as Brother and Sister as well. We will always be connected forever.
Love You My Brother,
Deputy Laura Leeds - Retired

Tanya,
May you and your boys find some comfort in knowing that David is in a peaceful place looking down on you and protecting you...he may not be here in physical form, but he is with all of you in spirit and I'm sure there are times when his presence is as real as it ever was...may God bless you and your boys...I'm sure he was a wonderful husband and father, as well as a hero...

As we near the 3rd Anniversary of your End of Watch I want you to know how very much the boys and I miss you! They're growing into young men...changing every day which is very bittersweet. I know you would be proud of who they are becoming! As for me...my heart still skips a beat when I see a brown patrol car, every time I see or hear something I want to tell you I still reach for thr phone to call or text you! The pain has begun to ease somewhat but I still miss you with every fiber of my being! I Love You Always my Once in a Lifetime Love! Forever in our Hearts-Deputy #128!

Two years ago I lost my everything...my husband, the father of my sons, my friend and partner in life...my once in a lifetime love! He took amazing care of me...he spoiled me rotten! He got me through the rough times...celebrated with me in the good times! He gave me 2 beautiful sons...who are growing into amazing young men! So many others also lost something that night...His LE family lost a brother and friend...someone they could always count on to have their back! His Mom and Step-Dad lost a son...My parents lost a son in law who was like a son to them! His Sisters lost their Big Brother. His sons lost their Dad. His Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces and Nephews lost a loving guy who cared about each one of them! His friends lost a friend who was always willing to help, always ready with a joke or a goofy ass story! And the Law Enforcement community lost a Great Deputy dedicated to his job and always doing the right thing! All of us who were lucky enough to have known him will always carry a small piece of him with us in our hearts! And we have a very Special Guardian Angel watching over us! Deputy #128 Always and Forever!

When I first learned of David's passing, It had been about 4 months after the incident. I was pretty shocked and saddened by the loss.

From my experience with David, I found him to be a true friend and someone I would trust to watch me back anytime.

My heart goes out to his family and my prayers will for him and his family.

It has been almost a year since the accident.
I remember you coming into dispatch that night and talking to me before I got off duty. I can still remember your goofy laugh and goofy grin. Your jokes were horible, but I would laugh anyway because of the way you told them.
You always took the time to speak with everybody and listen to them. You never thought you were better than anyone and saw some good in "most" people.
Dwayne and I talk about the day we saw you and Tanya at GT's. She and I both agreed that you and Dwayne were not allowed to go there alone without us.

You will always and forever be a good friend. I miss you Brother and I will see you again. God Bless

David and I called each other brothers. I have known David since we sat next to each other at the TDCJ academy in Beeville TX in 1997. Going on to work at the same institution. We worked in the middle east together after he and his wife were married. I remember how happy he was to graduate the police academy and become a deputy in Burnet.

Now its April 2010 and I am looking back to see his picture again.

Love you and miss you brother.

Somewhere among these many pages of heroes I came across your name and wanted to stop and leave a reflection to let you know that you have not been forgotten nor will that ever happen. Those that love you carry your precious memories in their hearts. Continue to watch over all of your loved ones and wrap your wings around all of them and protect them. I have no magic words to help them with their grief except for them to do everything in their power to keep your memory alive by telling stories about you and finding others that worked with you to tell them stories. You have not been forgotten.

Your family is in my prayers especially as Christmas approaches. My first husband was also killed in the line of duty on Oct. 3 (2001) when he was hit by a tractor trailer while on a traffic stop. The road you began travelling on that tragic day is a long & difficult one but you can make it. Time doesn't heal the pain but it helps you learn how to live your "new normal" life without your loved one. There are many other survivors out here who will keep you in our prayers. Hang in there!

Mrs. Blake,

Thank you for your kind words to Officer Trevor Nettleton's family. He, like your David, gave everything to simply help others! I pray that you and your children will feel God's peace during this first Christmas.
And if your husband likes to laugh, then he will enjoy meeting Trevor!!!
