I found this doing a search on my family name, and do not know Office Henry nor do I live in Texas. However, I am saddened to learn that Police Officer Henry Canales has died. Every day Law Enforcement of every type leave their homes to go to work, and not all make it all back home. We as civilians, do appreciate the daily danger, and sacrifices they and thier families make...but they are not recognized and thanked enough for doing the job they do....

Thanks from Lake Worth Florida. I am from the Canales family near Corpus Christi Texas.....Ray C. Canales

Rest in Peace....

TO "ACHIEVE THE HONORABLE" YOU HAVE TO BE: IN THE ARENA "IT IS NOT THE CRITIC WHO COUNTS: NO THE MAN WHO POINTS OUT HOW THE STRONG MAN STUMBLES OR WHERE THE DOER OF DEEDS COULD HAVE DONE BETTER. THE CREDIT BELONGS TO THE MAN WHO IS ACTUALLY IN THE ARENA, WHOSE FACE IS MARRED BY DUST AND SWEAT AND BLOOD, WHO STRIVES VALIANTLY, WHO ERRS AND COMES UP SHORT AGAIN AND AGAIN, BECAUSE THERE IS NO EFFORT WITHOUT ERROR OR SHORTCOMING, BUT WHO KNOWS THE GREAT ENTHUSIASMS, THE GREAT DEVOTIONS, WHO SPENDS HIMSELF FOR A WORTHLY CAUSE; WHO, AT THE BEST, KNOWS, IN THE END, THE TRIUMPH OF HIGH ACHIEVEMENT, AND WHO, AT THE WORST, IF HE FAILS, AT LEAST HE FAILS WHILE DARING GREATLY, SO THAT HIS PLACE SHALL NEVER BE WITH THOSE COLD AND TIMID SOULS WHO KNEW NIETHER VICTORY NOR DEFEAT."

Condolences to the family of Officer Canales - both at home and at HPD. Dealing with the loss of one of our own local LEO's, I feel we are kindred spirits. May the pain you feel be softened by the passage of time.

We offer our heartfelt sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of Officer Canales and we honor his distinguished service to the cause of justice and peace. Sadly, our nation has lost one of its finest citizens, a community has lost a friend and protector, and a family has lost an example of character and courage who they will love and respect forever.

To the family, friends, and colleagues of Officer Canales , I would like you to know that a lot of people pray for you, and my hope is that their prayers will give you the strength necessary to move on. Just as you were always with him when he walked the beat or patrolled the streets, know that he will always be with you - wherever you may be. In the days to follow, may you be strengthened by the fact that Officer Canales is a man distinguished by exceptional courage and will always be admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. You, your family, and your sacrifice will never be forgotten.

"My Brother"

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was idealistic and believed he could make a difference.
He was immensely proud of the uniform and the badge and what they represent.
He felt privileged to be of service to his department, his community and to his country.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was friendly, courteous, and polite, yet firm.
He laughed and joked, but was serious when necessary.
He was competent, trained, and professional.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He had a strong sense of right and wrong and became
frustrated when true justice became sidetracked.
He felt the sharp criticism that goes with the job, but he
never wavered.
He stood by and for his fellow officers.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He longed for his family during the long hours.
He worried about them during his shifts and the lonely
weekends, holidays and midnights when they were apart.
He felt guilty about the lost time, but knew his calling
and prayed they would understand.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was a good son, a loving husband, and a devoted father.
He was dedicated to the profession and cared about the
people he served.
He wanted to do the best job that he could and strived to
be the best he could be.
He was a good citizen and a good neighbor.

He was a cop.

Yes, I did know him.
He was a cop, he was my Brother.

Officer Canales,

I appreciate service and dedication to law enforcement and your community. Your dedication will not be forgotten.

It doesn't matter what state, county, city or jurisdiction you work in. It is a sad day when a fellow Officer loses his life.

Your commitment is evidence in the fact that you were out there on the streets fighting crime the day you were taken from this world.

You will not be forgotten Officer Canales. My thoughts and prayers will be for your family and loved ones.
