Reflections for Police Officer Stephen James Mayhle
Your heroism and service is honored today, the third anniversary year of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.
I pray for the solace of all those that love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. I hold your family in my heart's embrace. Thanks to your friends for sharing their memories and devotion to you through their reflections.

Verse 1
On that day,
You could have turned, and just run away
But you chose to give your all.
So I try,
To understand to find a reason why
The hero had to fall
Pre chorus
And I know that there is hope
Even as I cry
But it's still hard to say goodbye
Chorus
Fly away my friend. Fly away my friend
We will meet again. We will meet again.
Verse 2
As for me.
I'm hanging on to every memory.
Every laugh and every tear.
But I know.
That you are gone. I have to let you go.
To the One who placed you here.
Verse 3
I hear them play.
Amazing Grace, they bury you today.
And thousands say goodbye
So it ends,
And I am proud that I could call you friend
Silently I whisper...

I want to offer my condolences to this truly dedicated Officer and his family. It's a shame to hear that another officer has paid the ultimate sacrifice. We protect our communities from harm but take the risk of not coming home. I appreciate the service you have given us.

We are so sorry for the loss of your son Officer Stephen Mayhle. Our preist said the difference in between a police officer and the rest of the world is they run towards danger while the rest of us run away. Find comfort in knowing that he was trying to make this world a better place. We share your greif because our son died trying to help another officer responding to a drug bust call for extra help and he was just 28 years old too. Our youngest son is a student at Pitt and his sister is 25. WE miss him every day but are so proud of him. Your family is in our prayers. M. Matthews

We know the ultimate price some are asked to pay.
We know it could be us,and yet we wear the badge another day.
We rush head long toward danger, without a second thought.
We fight, protecting freedoms those before us bought.
Each and every time, we hear another hero's down,
we stand with pride and honor, as they place him in the ground.
We hear the bag pipes blowing, salute the flags they fold.
As the heroes go to heaven to patrol the streets of gold.
Why do we keep on fighting with the dangers in the field?
Some say it's a calling, some the spirit of the shield.
