Dear Sgt. Sakai:
The shockwave of this incident is still being felt throughout the country. We salute you for your sacrifice and thank you for keeping Oakland, California and America safe...sorry we wait until you are gone to thank you. I know you are in heaven and being greeted by the other "blue angels" including my beloved CHPs. I pray God will ease the pain of your family, your department and other friends.

Oakland P.D. Keep your heads high and know that right now, especially, your citizens are mourning with you...they may not be able to show it, but they are grateful that you do the job they cannot. There will be a wave instead of a finger and a smile instead of a frown and you will simply have to know that that is the best they can do. Oh, but it is a step in the right direction. A step of law obeyance keeping you from having to take law enforcement action on that one person. One is a good start.
Keep your heads held high and know your grief is shared throughout the state and country. Remember these four cops every day and honor them as the heroes they were in life..not just in death.

God bless you,
Your new "aunt" in Southern California

Angel Sergeant Daniel Sakai
>j<
In Flesh, he served and protected the City of Men. In Spirit, he serves and protects the Kingdom of Heaven. While he sails on the winds above, guarding the Children of Men, he serves God by defending God’s People with Her Word (Law)and forgives God’s Children with His Love(Law).
A service above and beyond his call of duty.
Some gave their all; he gave his life.

When we were in college he gave me a ride to my grandparents' house five hours away because I was stranded for the summer without a car. He politely said hello to my grandparents, maybe had a cup of tea, then turned around and drove back! A true gentleman and good friend, co-worker, and mentor. He always had integrity, a rare gem of a person. My thoughts are with his family.

Sgt. Sakai - Yuuki, as you already know, is the Japanese word for the courage that is the bravery one shows in the face of fear. The courage that one does the right thing even when it is hard or scary. The kind of courage that is the strength in ones heart.

Your death, though tragic, will set a standard of conduct we will compare ourselves to, for the rest of our time in uniform. I can only hope I'll live up to it.

A very dark day for everyone in the law enforcement community across the states. Rest easy brother...continue your watch from the streets above and send your strength to your brothers who contiune to walk the beat in Oakland, CA. May they find the strength to somehow continue on - you and your 3 brothers will be missed and your positions will never be filled.
