Reflections for Sergeant Daniel Takashi Sakai

Everytime a line-of-duty death occurs, I think it's fair to say we all feel it. As a fireman we work a lot with police, so it's a given that we feel a bond with them. I mourn the loss of a good cop along with three of his brothers. You had an impossibly hard job, and I am reassured that there are people like you who stepped up and chose to try to make the world a safer place for everyone. God Bless you, your fallen brothers, your family, and the Oakland Police Department.

I am sickened by the loss of this heroic officer. I never knew him in life, but after his death I feel like I do. I am sad for his wife and daughter. My heart bleeds today. This loss is totally unacceptable. May you rest in peace. THANK YOU officer SAKAI.

"…They were young,
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted;
They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them."

Sergeant Sakai,
Rest in Peace. I never had the opportunity to know you or Sergeants Dunakin and Romans, or Officer Hege, but the law enforcement community is a family and we have lost four of our brothers. We mourn the loss of all of you, as well as any officer who makes the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Our hearts and prayers are with your family and friends during their time of grief. Thank you for your service to your community and your fellow human being; all of you will be missed but NEVER forgotten.

When I have no one to turn to
And I am feeling kind of low,
When there is no one to talk to
And nowhere I want to go,
I search deep within myself
It is the love inside my heart
That lets me know my Angels are there
Even though we are miles apart.

A smile then appears upon my face
And the sun begins to shine.
I hear a voice, so soft and sweet
Saying, 'Everything will be just fine'
It may seem that I am alone
But I am never by myself at all.
Whenever I need my Angels near
All I have to do is call.

An Angel's love is always true
On that you can depend.
They will always stand behind you
And will always be your friend.
Through darkest hours and brightest days
Our Angel's see us through
They smile when we are happy, and will cry when we are blue..

Thank you for your service, your friendship and your protection
