Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Lawrence Wilhelm Canfield
Rest in Peace, Deputy Canfield. Your sacrifice is not forgotten.
Officer 11169
January 21, 2012
I was a recruit in the Sacramento County Sheriff's Training Academy when Deputy Larry Canfield was tragically lost in the line of duty. I can still remember to this day the outpouring of support at his funeral and the endless stream of kind words and memories everyone seemed to have of Larry. It was obvious he made a big impact on a lot of people. Two and a half years later though, the thing I remember most was the strength and dignity of Deputy Canfield's wife, Michelle, as she stood up to speak at his funeral. Michelle - I know Larry is still in a lot of people's hearts, thoughts, and prayers. I never knew him and was just a lowly recruit in his agency's academy at the time, yet I still think of him and your family from time to time. I hope your boys are doing well and I hope you have found some solace and peace in the last couple of years. Larry will never be forgotten and his sacrifice, service, and the dedication he had to what we do will forever make him a hero in my eyes.

To my Best Friend,
I miss you now more than ever. Every morning I miss seeing you walk out the door. I miss the phone calls, the sharing of stories. I miss hearing about the days events and most of all I miss your laugh. I know you are up in heaven sending me positive thoughts that I can do this without you. That I am never alone and will always have you in my heart. I will love you forever.

Larry,
I had a chance to meet your fellow officers at Police Week this year. I had the Honor of riding with them on several escorts. They are true professionals, every one of them.
They spoke highly of you and they truly rode in your honor.

Larry, I rememeber meeting you for the first time while you were on a stop in Rio Linda. I was trying to get you guys to leave so we could monitor a 1 lb dope deal. The big ol' grin with the cigar stiffed in you face as you told me you had already stopped and arrested the guy is still fresh in my mind. Recently one of your Rancho Cordova brothers had another M/C crash. He got off with pretty minor injuries. Somehow I knew you'd still be on the job! God bless bro. You and yours are in our thoughts always. RIP

Larry was the one (along with a few co-conspirators) that would hide my motor while I was giving shift briefing. I know he enjoyed watching me search for my bike; now he cohorts willhave to do the dirty work, and he can delight from on high.

I never had the great pleasure of knowing Deputy Canfield, however; I have had the honor of working with a few of his fellow brothers and sisters. I can say the men and woman I have met and worked with from SSD have always impressed me.
I am sorry for the loss of a fellow member of our LE Family and will pray for Larry, his wife, children, family, friends and the entire SSD Family.
Thank you for your service Deputy Canfield, you now have your final set of wings. Fly high and safe, continue to watch over all of us as we continue the fight.
