I had the opportunity to attend your funeral. It's a sad day to have to put a fellow brother in blue to rest.
I didn't know Charlie personally but I can feel his loss. It sounds like he was a great Husband, Father and Police Officer. He will be greatly missed.
I express my deepest sympathy with those close to him. His death hits close to home as it's been 6 years to the day we lost one of our own.
My heart goes out Charlie's wife, children, family, friends and fellow Police Officers.
You will not be forgotten. May you body rest in peace as your spirit lives on, awaiting the reunion with your eternal family.

The loss of an officer is a tragedy, no matter who it may be, but it is even harder for one who is young and just starting a family.

I am also the wife of a police officer and wish the best to your family.

Rest in peace

To the family and friends of Officer Skinner and the members of the North Salt Lake Police Dept.

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you have suffered when Officer Skinner was tragically killed.

To Officer Skinner's family, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in the Bay Area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the service Charles gave to his community and the citizens of Utah, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on November 7, 2008.

Some years ago I was a police officer in the City of Cedar Park, Texas. A very close friend notified me that he was in pursuit of a subject on a motorcycle; the following poem written by fellow officer Sgt Gary D. Wilson of Cedar Park, TX tells the story of that chase and it’s outcome. Hopefully, it will mean something to those of you who knew Officer Charles Skinner.

Just like him
I wear a badge and a gun

Just like him
At first
It was fun

In the beginning
Real justice
Was usually done

But, like all things
Laws and lawmen change

We once had respect
The outlaws dared not reject

Then the outlaws screamed
“The cops tore off my bandana”
The lawmakers demanded
The poor fellows need the “Miranda”

Now the tables have turned
The officers have learned
The outlaws have nothing to fear
The jails are all full, “ Probation One Year

It all may sound crazy
To lawmakers it’s hazy

Now the outlaw on probation
Can’t chance being stopped
For a traffic violation

To hell with the man
With the badge and the gun
At full speed, the outlaw runs

The officers, they gave a good chase
But, “Oh my God”
One officers life
Has been completely erased

Now I sit and mourn
The loss of a Brother
Killed in the line of duty
Like so many others

Now where’s the damed justice

The guy on probation
Has got 4 or 5 Citations
Now he will do the time
For his original Probation

The lawmakers explanation
For the Officers life that was taken
“He Chose the Badge and the Gun.

So full of life and fight. Missed kisses and good-by's, family gatherings and holidays. Seeing the kids grow up, growing old with the spouse. Buying that new house and going to graduations. Church on sundays and fellowship with friends. Seasons changing and quiet moments. Fire side story telling and weekends off. These are all the things officers give away when they choose to serve. Rest east now brother, we'll carry on from here. R.I.P.
