Reflections for Officer Kristine Marie Fairbanks

In summation, Kris was a very competent officer and yet, a gentle soul.

To the family and fellow Forest Service Officers I want to send you my deepest thoughts and prayers and want you to know everyone is keeping you in our hearts during this difficult time.

I am the father of Nevada Trooper Kara Kelly-Borgognone, #727, EOW 2-28-08, and know there is no greater loss than this. It makes no sense and never will. It is the toughest thing a husband, parent, child and fellow officer will ever have to go through and I hope no one ever has to ever again.

From everything I can read or know about Officer Kristine Fairbanks she was a dedicated professional as well as a Loving Caring wife and mother, daughter, friend, and just great person. There is no higher calling than that. As the father of a Lady Law Enforcement Officer who also left behind a husband and daughter I know this is the toughest and most painful thing anyone could ever have to go through.

Please know we are praying for you and also for all of your friends, family, co-workers and there are people all over the United States that hold Kristine in the highest regard and care as well as the family too. We will NEVER forget Kristine and her sacrifice as she gave her all and is now with the Angels in Uniform who gaurd and keep us daily.

Please feel free to contact me anytime at 775-427-4215. I would do anything possible to help the family of a "True Hero". As I have learned..."Heros Live Forever"

Kris,on behalf of the Coeur d'Alene River Ranger District, I express our deepest appreciation for your service and our heartfelt compassion for your husband and daughter. I have spent numerous hours with our LEO's amd FPO's, and have the utmost respect for the daily challenges faced in caring for the land and serving people. You did so with honor and distinction as attested by many. This Forest grieved the loss of LEO Brent Jacobson, nearly 20 years ago in a shooting incident. As part of your Forest Service family, we stand with you and your family, now and forevermore.

Thank you Kris, for protecting the public and your coworkers. Every one of us working in the field owes you and all LEO's a great debt for the role you play in allowing us to do what we do safely. I wish you could return to your family tonight, and I thank you for all you did to let others return to thiers. Thank you and may God help bring peace to your daughter and husband.

My deepest condolences to the family and friends of Officer Fairbanks. The lives of our law enforcement officers who daily face the unknown, whether it is in the darkest part of the forest or on the streets, their courage and dedication while standing between us and those who wish to do us harm can never be forgotten. Officer Fairbanks will never be forgotten by those who continue to protect and serve and by those who love and respect nature. May God watch over you.

Kris,
It seems like yesterday I was in your office, talking about K9s. Or talking to you next to your truck while you filled up at the 76 station. I was always inspired by the way your eyes lit up when you talked about your daughter, or your dog, or even the latest crazy call you and Radar were on. You were always so happy, so positive. Every time we talked, I would drive off thinking "I want to be THAT kind of officer". I am really going to miss you Kris. I wish we could have just one more "roadside"- I would thank you for being such a positive influence, and for always reminding me of what is truly important. I will always remember you.
Rest in Peace.

Your land management colleagues in the National Park Service grieve for this terrible loss. We know what it means to patrol vast lands alone, to risk everything in order to protect the nation's most precious places, and we deeply honor your sacrifice. Our thoughts are with you and your family.

11 days ago we had a memorial service for Anne Jackson, a Skagit County Deputy and now we once again go thru the heartache of telling another officer good-bye. Officer Fairbanks served proudly and was deeply loved and respected by those who knew her. It is a tragedy to lose her. We never know when our lives on this earth will end, but we can make a reservation in Heaven now and assure us a place when God calls us to Himself. Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life (John 14:6) and He PAID the price for our sins on the Cross so we don't have to pay the penalty for our sins. Yipee! If we accept His payment by faith we can have salvation and spend eternity with Him in Heaven. It is not something we must earn, it is a gift. The most precious one we can ever receive. "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith_and this not from yourselves, it is the GIFT of God_not by good deeds, so that no one can boast." Ephesians 2: 8,9. For without faith, it is impossible to please God. And our faith must be in God's only Son, Jesus Christ.
You were a credit to the uniform, Officer Fairbanks. Thanks for serving the
Evergreen State! My heart goes out to your loved ones left behind and may the Lord comfort them as only He can do.

Last Wednesday when I nearly ran into with my grocery cart in Thriftymart you smiled and we exchanged hellos. It was great to work with you over the years. You and your family were great neighbors. When you moved to the river I thought "what a great place for you to stretch out and decompress." Your integrity and devotion to duty were an inspiration to all of us. Your devotion to your daughter and other children was legendary. You lived life "for the greatest good." May the place you are now be free from all the things that trouble our public lands.
