You came to mind today, so I decided to write. As a classmate it was an honor to get to know you. You were a great man and still remembered! Your service with the US Border Patrol and US Army will never be forgotten. Your country owes you a debt. I pray your wife, child, and family are doing well. Until we meet again...

Today, September 6, 2011, my son Jarod would have turned 32 years old.

I will never forget bringing him home from the hospital as a newborn, and thinking he was the most beautiful child I had ever seen!

I will never forget what a great dad, husband, son, grandson, brother, cousin and friend he was to those he loved.

I will never forget his face when his daughter Angela was born.

I will never forget that he gave his life for his country.

I will never forget.

Jarod,
I will be setting out tomorrow morning to participate in Police Unity Tour 2009. I will be riding in your honor this year on the 300 mile bike ride from NJ to DC. I have learned quite a bit about you from your family and reading reflections here. You were obviously one great guy and I am very proud to be riding in your honor. Sorry you had to go Jarod.

Jarod,
I miss you very much, there isn't a day that goes by that I don't look at our academy class photo on my shelf and see you standing next to me. We were so proud that we were about to graduate. I miss the fun we had in post academy and the drinks on "Taco Tuesdays". I think about you every day and know that you still stand next to all of us, even if we can't see you.

I have been reading these reflections since the death of my son on March 30th. They have been a blessing and a comfort, and I thank those dear folks who have contributed. It has been 6 months since I was told of Jarod's death, and it is only now that I can write something. I am proud and honored to have been the mother of such a wonderful man. He was a respectful, bright, and loving boy and then man. He died defending the country that he loved, and I am proud of him for that. I, and his entire family, miss him terribly but he is in a much better place and we will see him again. God bless all those who protect our country and who give their lives for our freedom.

To those who loved Agent Dittman, my heart goes to you all. Know that you're not alone in this journey you walk. I lost my fiance in the line of duty January 2003 and my world was forever changed. It's been a long hard road, and even as time as gone forward, and I've found many reasons and ways to smile, I still have not forgotten the man that he was. Dennis was a beautiful person and he forever has a part of my heart, just as I'm sure Jarod will always be a part of yours.

It takes a special person to put their lives on the line everyday to make this world a little safer for us all. I know many of these men never would've thought of themselves as "heroes" but they were in so many ways. It's sad that it they had to lose their lives for some of us to see that. Having said that, thank you Agent Dittman for helping to make this world a better place. You will not be forgotten here in Winnipeg. I know this isn't a very manly thing to do, but if you happen to run into Dennis up there, please give him a big hug for the kids and I. Dennis was a good man and we miss him more than words can say.

Wishing those who loved you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne
