Brother Lane, you know we served together on Fort Jackson...You were always so postive even when I was cold you would make all of us laugh and say stuff like, it is not the heat that gets you it is the Huminity as I was talking about how cold I was...LOL. I have since retired form the Army and now myself is where you were getting ready to start a second career in Law enforcement.

Lane, you will always be in my heart and I will never forget you brother...you made a difference in this life both for our country and for the state of SC. Peace be with u and your family...RIP

Hey brother we recently had our fallen officer memorial service in my department and all i could think about was you D.
I remember when we were in the academy together in Columbia SC, i wanted to quit but you said B dont give up we are here for a reason. Though I never knew him, he was part of my Law Enforcement family and I will mourn this deep loss the rest of my life. My heart aches with all the losses we have suffered, and continue to suffer, through the years. God is our only peace in such incidents & our only real comfort comes from Him. May His strength, comfort & peace continue to be the sustaining force in the lives of all who knew this beloved officer; and may it somehow help to know they do not grieve alone.

Deputy Lane served proudly and was deeply loved and respected by those who knew him. It is a tragedy to lose him. We never know when our lives on this earth will end, but we can make a reservation in Heaven now and assure us a place when God calls us to Himself. Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life (John 14:6) and He PAID the price for our sins on the Cross so we don't have to pay the penalty for our sins. Yipee! If we accept His payment by faith we can have salvation and spend eternity with Him in Heaven. It is not something we must earn, it is a gift. The most precious one we can ever receive. "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith_and this not from yourselves, it is the GIFT of God_not by good deeds, so that no one can boast." Ephesians 2: 8,9. For without faith, it is impossible to please God. And our faith must be in God's only Son, Jesus Christ.
You were a credit to the uniform, Deputy Lane. My heart goes out to your
loved ones left behind and may the Lord comfort them as only He can.

I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiancé Dennis. Everytime I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the man they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Deputy Lane. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. You will be in my thoughts.

From reading the reflections left for Darral, he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember Darral's life and the MAN that he was. Remember that Darral's life was about so much more than the way he died. Darral will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.

Deputy Lane, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my late fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been almost five years but we still miss him terribly.

it was truly a pleasure knowing you. I remember meeting you when you first came to the department and talking about our experiences in the Army. I think the thing I remember most about you is your smile and love of the job. The last time we spoke was at prelims on December 7,2007 and you were happy about winning Deputy of the Quarter. The Lord giveth, and the Lord Taketh away. And though we grieve, and we mourn your leaving us here on Earth, we can be reassured that you are in a better place, watching over us here below.

Hey Darral. Well, we laid you to rest today. The whole department was there as well as people from departments from all over the state. I saw all of our old Army buddies from Jackson there, and they were celebrating your life, and the honor of knowing you. I had the distinct pleasure of being right behind the caisson as we marched, and it made me very proud to walk behind you. Brother, if you only knew (which I am sure you do now) how many lives you touched in your life here on Gods great Earth. There was not one dry eye that I could see today. Every person that spoke had nothing but admiration and good things to say about you. By the way brother, you got what you wanted. You were going to the DST. The boss announced that at your service. I thought I was doing ok as far as not breaking down today, but when dispatch called Richland 345, and you did not answer, I lost it. I hope you dont think less of me for that. I just could not contain my tears as they anounced that you were 10-7, 10-42. To have known you was a privilege and a honor. To your family, I can only say that if they ever need anything, I will do my best to help them. Brother, you were an inspiration, and an example to follow. I can only pray that I can be half the Deputy that you were. We have the watch now brother. Rest in Peace. 10-7, 10-42.
