My son John Paul Miller, only God knows how much I love you because he also lost his only son and somehow I feel he knows my pain. Today is the third month since you went away , and the hole in my heart is not any better and never will be. My heart is only so big and my children took up most of it. You and Amy are my life and part is now gone but never far away. I feel you watching and I talk to you as if you were here. Somehow I will continue on without you, dad, grandma and my dad. You are now all together waiting for us and that gives me peace. I am trying so hard to be a good person so god will allow me to be with my loved ones, because only the faithful, good people get to heaven. This is now my purpose in life to get all my loved ones to heaven. Your father found god and received his grace and forgiveness before he left and you prayed with us and I know followed in your dads footprints, as always. How could you not with the name John Paul Miller. You were named after your dad Paul, Grandpa Paul, Grandpa John, and Great Grandpa John, what a name, Im so proud of you all

Love you baby,

Mom

I recieved a slide show of your life today in the mail from your mom. What a wonderful life you lived, so rich with love, friends and family. I feel a little peace today after seeing how much you were loved and how you loved so many with all your heart. Although I miss you terribly, I know you are resting with God. Look out for us all. I Love you so much!

John, It seems like forever since I have seen you. I miss you so much. Everyday I think of you and it just doesn't get any easier. The pain I feel for your loss will always be there, but I try to get through the pain with all the wonderful memories of you. I love you brother!

Dear John;

It was my extreme honor to meet not only your wife Stephanie, but your wonderful in-laws Linda and Rico. I met them at the Alameda County "100 Club" dinner. They carry on your memory with respect and honor. I am a better person for having met them. I am always humbled when I am allowed the honor to meet the families of one of our fallen hero's. As I told Stephanie at the end of the dinner, survivor spouses are the most emotionally strong people I've ever know. Stronger then any police officer who ever walked a beat, drove a patrol car, or answered a call for service.

Stephanie, remember to reach out when you're ready to those who extend their hands to help....it helps with everyone's healing. In time you will look back and see yourself as the strong person that those of us on the outside see you as...

John, your sacrifices will never be forgotten...A sign that Cathy Clearman (widow of CHP Officer Brent Clearman E.O.W. 06 Aug 06) once showed me from the National Memorial reads; you are not a hero for how you died, but for how you lived...That being said, the only thing I can add is please, Rest in Peace Brother...

Uncle John,
The night we found out that you were gone was one of the worst nights in my life. I could not believe that it was even possible for God to take you after he had already taken my papa Larry. You and papa are my heros and the two greatest men in my life and I miss you so much. I am proud to have had you for my uncle for 12 years and I will never forget you and all you taught me about life. I will hopefully be able to tell Chandler and Reese what a really great dad they had. If I could have picked a dad for myself you would have been it, but just haveing you for my uncle was enough for me. I love you so much and only pray someday I can make you as proud of me as you did for me and Nana and your sister Amy. I promise to try and remember all you told me and to take care of your mom and sister. It is so hard to have fun anymore without you, you were always ready to play with me even when you were so tired. I know there must be a reason you had to leave so quickly and someday we will know why. Until then my "uncle" be our guardian angel and know how much we all love you.

Your Nephew,

Rodney Miller, Jr.

It has been 8 weeks today and we miss you so much. Twelve years ago you came into our lives and we are so thankful you made our daughter so happy and for two beautiful grandchildren. We promise to always tell Chandler and Reese how much you love them and what a wonderful dad you are. They miss you so very much. Stephanie's heart is broken but i know the wonderful memories of you will get her through this terrible time. We were so lucky to have you as our son-in-law you always made us proud to call you that. I know your proudest days were your wedding, the birth of Chandler and Reese and the day you became Officer Miller, we have so many wonderful memories of each of these times. So many family and friends miss you and we will never be the same without you. We will always be here to help Stephanie and the kids. We will always love and miss you John.

My son how I miss you, you were always my hero and the world is truly robbed of a great man and wonderful human being. You always put yourself last and strived to make everyone proud of you. You have done it my son but you didn't even have have to try with me because I knew I had been blessed with the best son in the whole world. Your sister Amy, and nephew Rodney who loved his uncle John so much are completely devastated and wish to God we could get you back as well as your dad who only 16 months before you also left us. God must have needed the two best men in the world and he now has you. I will miss you until I see you again but until then my son take care of your dad and grandma as you always did for all of us.

I have had the pleasure and honor to know John for over 12 years. John, you were not only my brother in law, but a dear friend! I feel so sad to think I will not get to see you or talk to you, but I know you are resting in heaven! You touched my life in ways you will never know and you made everyone around you a better person, including me! You will always live on through Stephanie and your children, who all miss you dearly! Your ultimate sacrifice will always be remembered and appreciated by your friends, family and community. I hope you see from up above how loved you are and how proud we all are of you. You are a true MAN! I know you were only with us for 32 years, but you did so much more in 32 years than many do in a lifetime! My promise to you is that I will always tell your kids how wonderful you were and how much you loved them! And I will be there for Stephanie to help her through this terribly sad and trying time! Always know your legacy will always live on in them! I see you so much in Chandler and Reese! This terrible experience has been life changing for us all! I will treasure each day I have with my family, as you did! Watch over us all! I know you are our guardian angel and your hard work is done. You can now rest with the Lord. Save me a spot in heaven (I will see you up there in MANY years) I love you brother Johnny!
Love-Jenn

I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiancé Dennis. Everytime I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the man they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Officer Miller. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. You will be in my thoughts.

From reading the reflections left for John, he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember John's life and the MAN that he was. Remember that John's life was about so much more than the way he died. John will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.

Officer Miller, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my late fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been almost five years but we still miss him terribly.

Wishing you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)

I was blessed to meet the mother in law of John Miller a few days ago at Walmart of all places. She was there copying pictures of John and we began to chat. She told me of her daughter, John's wife, and their children and how they were doing. I was honored that she showed me a few pictures, when John and his wife first dated or were first married. Your family has been in our hearts and prayers since November 16th, and especially now since I had a glimpse into the love that still radiates from your family. You are a hero and will never be forgotten. God bless you and your family always.
