Reflections for Police Officer Charles Edward Cassidy

R.I.P

April 30, 2008

All I can say is the Lt. that left the previous reflection on here hit the nail on the head with her statement about how people often complain about how cops are never around when they need them. Ofc. Cassidy was there when the people inside the store needed him, just like how Gary Skerski was at Pat's cafe the night that the people inside there needed him. The men and women of the PPD are everyday heroes. We as citizens of Philadelphia all owe them for what they do day in and day out as a pretty much thankless job. Not too many people are willing to do the things they do, especially considering the salary, come on. Just goes to show you the character of the men and women who sign up. It is not about the money, it's about being able to directly make a difference in someone's life. There is an old saying, the marines use it, many people go through their life wondering if they made a difference in the world, well Marines don't have that problem. Well, you can say any member of the PPD also does not have that problem, especially the brave men and women who have laid down their life so that others may live. Officer Cassidy, it is an honor to have walked the same hallways that you did in high school. Your Family will always be in my prayers, like another officer had previously stated, I can only wish that I can be half the man and potentially half the officer that you were. You reallly set the bar high, and everyone should try to live their life the way you did. Thank You!!! A grateful citizen!!!

Chuck was a great man, someone we all looked up to as younger officers. His experience, courtesy, compassion, and dedication ...in his family life and as an officer, is unmatched. You are missed dearly, thanks for all the back-up, the advice, and most of all the laughs! This is an officer that did his job and did it to his fullest until the end. HONOR...INTEGRITY....SERVICE, 3 words that not only describe our dept. here but truly describes CHUCK. I salute you chuck as you did to me the night prior stating "your work is done here, I'm going home" Well, your are home and please rest in peace.

Ofc Cassidy,
It is always scary when something such as this mess strikes this close to home. You ARE an absolute hero and you will never be forgotten. My only hope that is when I have many years on the job as you had, that I am half as respected as you are in your community. Rest in Peace brother and keep an eye on the rest of us.

I praise the Lord for each and every Police Officer; they are all heros. I praise the Lord for Officer Cassidy; thank you for all your hard work and long hours. It is hard to say good bye. Even as we go into the New Year I pray that there will be a new attitude in this city and country; where there is unity, love; where we honor our Police Officers and not look to tear them down. That we truly thank them for standing in the gap for us each and everyday. Thank you Officer Cassidy; thank you EVERY Philadelphia Police Officer and thank you EVERY Police Officer throughout the world. God Bless all of you and keep you and your families safe in this New Year and beyond.

I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiancé Dennis. Everytime I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the man they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Officer Cassidy. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. You will be in my thoughts.

From reading the reflections left for Charles, he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember Charles' life and the MAN that he was. Remember that Charles' life was about so much more than the way he died. Charles will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.

Officer Cassidy, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my late fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been almost five years but we still miss him terribly.

Wishing you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)
