Reflections for Police Officer Charles Cassidy
I happened to see a news blurb on Philly TV in '07 showing Chuck's pic. I didn't recognize him. A week or so later the Cardinal Dougherty quarterly letter came in the mail. It had the same pic I'd seen on TV. He was a grad from my year, 1970. He looked familiar to me. I got out my 1970 yearbook and found his pic from 1970. Oh My God! I played football with Chuck back in '66 & '67 at Dougherty!
Chuck was a fine athlete and a good guy. It hurts me deeply to know that he was murdered so senslessly. My thoughts & prayers continue to go out to him and his family. I'm still shocked. I don't know what else to say except: God Bless Chuck!

Officer Cassidy, I just finished reading an article submitted to the Phila Inq by your beloved wife. My wife called me while I was on the street today and told me she just needed to hear my voice. I later found out she had read the article too. You and I would have had a lot in common and it scared her. I am heart broken for you and your family. You are all in my prayers. You left a strong and wonderfull family and did your duty well. RIP brother we've got the watch from here.

St. Michael's sword darts through the air
and touches the aureole on his hair
As he sees them stand saluting there,
His stalwart sons:
And Patrick, Brigid, Columkill
Rejoice that in veins of warriors still
The Gael's blood runs.
And up to Heaven's doorway floats,
From the wood called Rouge Bouquet,
A delicate cloud of bugle notes
That softly say:
"Farewell!
Farewell!
Comrades true, born anew, peace to you!
Your souls shall be where the heroes are
And your memory shine like the morning-star.
Brave and dear,
Shield us here.
Farewell!"

Hello Officer Cassidy,
You passed away on my 30th birthday. So this year as I blew out my candles to celebrate my 31st I said a little prayer for your family and fellow officers you left behind...and I'll keep that little tradition up.
Thank you for protecting my city. God rest. See you in heaven, sir.
