Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Officer Sergio Carrera

I met Sergio during his first week at RPD, he was hired almost a week before me. The short amount of time I was there, I knew Sergio and at many times, worked right along side of him. I left but, saw him again about 2 months ago. He was a proud police officer and loved what he did.

Sergio, my heart and prayers goes out to your family, wife, children. My heart also goes out to the rest of Rialto PD who are now left without you. I know you will be missed. I hope your name is never forgotten. But, if it does, the legacy you left behind, will live on forever.

with love Sergio,
D

You and your family are also in the prayers of my best friend Correction Officer C.G. of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitations

As I was driving down the 71 freeway I saw something that touched my heart and brought tears to my eyes. The overwelming support that was given to Officer Carrera was stunning.I live in Chino Hills and often see funerals at St. Paul but I have never seen so many of your fellow officers giving support. To have this many friends reflects on what kind of person Officer Carrera was. To the family of Officer Carrera my heart goes out to you and pray that God will give you the strength to get through this.

Sergio, I am very thankful that I was able to attend SWAT school with you and the rest of your Rialto P.D. brothers. You and Lamont were probably two of the funniest individuals I have ever had the opportunity to know. On the other hand, my heart is broken that you were taken away from us on October 18th. There are no words that can be said to make the pain go away. The only thing I can think to say is something that my grandfather said to me before he went his special place...."May my peace be with you, do not let your heart be troubled." I know that Sergio will look out for all of his brothers and sisters in Law Enforcement. I also believe that Sergio will look out for his wife and kids until one day they meet again. Sergio, may you rest and peace my brother. To his wife an d kids, I am so sorry for you loss and the pain that you are feeling. Please let others comfort you and help you through these trying times.

Today I sat on a freeway over pass looking down on the 10 freeway. The wait was pretty long, the reason very sad. One of our finest had been killed in the line of duty. Normally every one would have been honking horns and getting angry, today there was complete silence as we all watched the hundreds of Police Vehicles passing below to say good bye to one of their own.

This evening my thoughts and prayers were still with Officer Sergio Carrera and his family. I came to this site by searching on the web. My wife and I sat and read the reflections from all the others. Our prayers do go out to the family, friends and other officers. Our thanks and prayers go out to all of our Law Enforcement Officers.

Sincerely

You leaving us so soon has brought us to our knees. We are devastated but we will hold our heads up high because that's how you would have wanted it. We know you are home and you are safe with our good Lord. You will forever be a part of us and glorious will be t he day when we will see you again. Look for my son, if he hasn’t found you by now. You'll know instantly who he is. He's that young man with the great big smile and a loving heart, just like yours!

I was a dispatcher for a short time with Rialto Police Department. I quickly found out that working inside was just not for me. I preferred the action of being out on the street and subsequently left the RPD to pursue working under cover narcotics and Corrections. However, before I left RPD I learned a lot from one of RPD's finest Officers, and I carry his wisdom with me today. To quote him "Always take the high road."

You and I never walked the RPD hallways together. However, I can see, by the reflections on these pages, that you were a good man, an honored team member and a true and caring friend. This tells me that you were also a magnificent husband and father.

None of us know when our paths will end. Our Lord makes that decision. However, we do have the daily choice of whether or not to take the high road. I believe that you, Officer Sergio Carrera, always took the high road. And for that reason, I pray that your family is comforted knowing that you are safe in our Lords Heavenly arms.

I still can remeber day 1 at the academy..you were always running late in the dusty Passat(we even affectionately named your car "the rolling rat's nest"),eating your beef jerkey, and you quickly became the front runner for the bag of "shush"...but I could always count on you to motivate me while doing PT, especially on those long runs when i fell behind you were always there yelling back at me "Come on Big Jones" to keep me going..... till the last day of the academy (GRADUATION DAY!)when we rushed from the Chiefs office (after just being hired), jumped in the rat's nest and rushed over to Greenwood's to get our uniforms in time for graduation....

What I'll miss most is the morning bagging sessions between you and Lamont, and your famous words to me always being "Jones, you think you could take me?".......Man too only here those words again...till we meet again Serg(it will be on and crackin!).

The Jones family loves and misses you a great deal and you will never be forgotten in our hearts...

As all the memories of you resurface, it is hard to come to grips that, that is all we have now. Today I will have nothing to say that will ease the pain or bring you back. For every time I have said remember when….. I can only wish I had that much more time with you. I was lucky to have you in our lives. Your inspiration, determination, and loyalty to your family and friends have made in impact in our lives. In some way, you will always be apart of us. You will be truly missed but never forgotten. WE LOVE YOU OFFICER SERGIO CARRERA JR!!

The late night of October 17th Officer Sergio Carrera had a call to my fathers' home in Rialto, Calif. Officer Carrera delievered a message because my step-mothers' brother had passed away and no one could get a hold of them. He so kindly delievered the message to my father to have my step-mom call her family that there was a family emergency. I had called my dad in Rialto on the night of 10/23/07 to see how they were doing and to see if they were in danger because of the fire's burning in southern California. He began to tell me about Officer Carrera coming to his mobile home and about the message he had delievered. Then he told me he had been watching the news the next evening and that there had been an officer killed in the line of duty. He was stunned. There was a picture of Officer Carrera on the T.V. My father said "I can't believe it, he was here at my house last night."
I attended an 8 week citizens police academy course in my town here in Lexington, Tennessee and I knew about this special place to come to and pay tribute to our fallen Officers. ODMP.org.
I wanted to pay my respect to Officer Carrera, and send my heartfelt prayers to his wife, children, all his family, friends, and all his extended police family. Officer Carrera gave his life to serve and protect. And he took the time to check on my dad and step-mom and give them that important message. I know he had to have been a very special person. God Bless you all, and Thank You Officer Carrera for caring so much. You are truely a special breed. Love, hugs and prayers to all of you.

As the hours pass and the day is readily approaching I am dreading the moment I have to say my Last Good Bye. You were taken from the earth in a blink of an eye and all that is left are memories to hold close to my heart. I don’t understand why but I’m sure God had better plans in mind. I know our life is lived on borrowed time and every moment is precious and living every moment to its fullest is exactly what you did. I thank God for allowing our paths to cross. I know one day we shall meet again so instead of saying good bye I think I’ll say see you soon.

Rest In Peace Sergio
