Your heroism and service is honored today, the second anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

It sounds like thunder far away, but the skies are blue and bright...
And soon they crest the hill nearby, and ride into our sight.
They shake the ground with powerful sound, and they make some hearts beat fast...
They look so proud and noble, like Knights come from the past.

Side by side, they always ride, and seem to move as one...
From early in the morning light, to the setting of the sun.
And children point and wave to them, from cars that pass them by...
And young ones ask their parents, why the men have mirrors for eyes.

They ride the roads, and fight for good, and defend small ones like you...
They ask to ride, and do with pride, and sometimes they are few.
Like men of steel, on Silver Wings, they sparkle in the light...
then with a roar and rumble, they ride out of our sight.

Sometimes when one has fallen, never to ride again...
You can hear the others calling, like thunder on the wind.
Side by side, they slowly ride, and their thunder is a mournful sound...
And the mirrors hide their eyes from us, when teardrops fall to ground.

So if you see one riding, and you look into his face...
You see your reflection in his eyes, you know that you are safe.
For motormen are a special breed, they love to ride the wind...
And when you hear the thunder boom, the fallen ones ride again.

To Germaine, his Family, and Friends,

I had the pleasure of knowing and playing baseball with Germaine in High School at Rich Central. Germaine would probably never tell anyone because he is so soft spoken but what a great baseball player he was. A natural hitter who was drafted out of High School and had a nice career with the Atlanta Braves. For those of you who had the pleasure of watching him hit a baseball you were lucky.I know I was and will always remember that. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. Germaine will always be missed by some old baseball buddies in Illinois. Take Care...

To Germaine and Family,
I went to High school with Germaine and played baseball with him at Rich Central in the 1980's. Germaine, as soft spoken as he is, probably would never tell anyone what a great player he was but I can beacause I had the pleasure of playing with him in high school and after. What a great hitter. A natural in every sense of the word. To this day I can remember how hard and far he could hit balls. His swing is seared into my mind. It is the first thing I think of when I think of Germaine. That swing is what led him to get drafted in baseball professionally out of High School. I wish everyone had the pleasure to see it. It was special. I know Germaine was also special as a husband, father, son, friend, co-worker, teamate etc.... He will be missed greatly by a baseball friend from Joliet Illinois. God bless all his friends and Family.

Germaine,

It's been a year since the day we lost you. On this anniversary date I had occasion to speak with fellow officers who worked closely with you. Listening to their stories, I was impressed by the positive impact you made on our officers in a relatively short period of time. I only wish that I had the opportunity to work with you on shift as our fellow officers did. No doubt you were a great officer stand along side of. Thank you for your service brother. Proud we had you with us.

I got to know Germaine over the past few years as an umpire in Indianapolis where he came to play in a Labor Day tournament. After having surgery last summer, I missed the news last year. I was deeply saddened to hear of the accident this past weekend. Heroes walk among us. Germaine was one of these heroes. In my travels in baseball, I have been very fortunate to meet many people that have made my life better to have their acquaintance. Germaine was definitely one of these people. Your baseball family, both nuclear and extended, will miss you greatly.
To his family, I am deeply sorry for your loss. Your father and husband was definitely someone to be proud of!

It's been one year since you were taken from this world my friend. I still feel an incredible loss that time has not healed, But left a constant dull pain that burns deep within my heart. In our proffession we soemtimes forget just how fragile life is and don't take the time to spend with the ones we care for and love. We wrap ourselves around our jobs and let it consume us. I was fortunate to have known you and consider myself lucky that I could call you my friend as you were one of the few who always took that time. Your kindness, spirit, and passion IS inspireing and I thank you for all you have given me, in life and in death. Until we meet again my friend, I know you will continue to watch over us.

On the first anniversary of Officer Casey's death, we honored his service in our patrol briefing by reading his entry from ODMP. Each day, we honor one fallen officer on the anniversary of their death so as to keep them in our thoughts, and also to remind us of the dangers inherent in our job. Officer Casey is not forgotten.

Yes time has passed but Germaine has not been forgotten! He is thought about daily with that winning smile of his. I can picture him smiling down at all his brothers as they talk and remember what a joy he was to be around. The RRDPS has changed forever since this man has gone out of their lives. He was one of the great men that made a brotherhood. I pray everyday that as my husband walks out the door that he is going to return to our family. I have faith in his RR brotherhood that will always be there to protect each other as well. May God Bless all the men and women who have this kind of strength to go out there everyday to protect our communities

Fallen Hero

In each generation there is a hero.
Every one has a hero.
But I am different because I have two heroes.
One on my right shoulder and the other on my left shoulder.
They are watching me and they live in my heart now.
The one on the right is my father, a protector of the law.
The one on the left is his friend and a great guy Germaine Casey, a man who died protecting our president from being attacked
Teamed up together they could have rid the world of evil.
But, Death has rid Officer Casey first in his accident.
But his spirit lives on in our hearts and in our souls
There is one thing that’s true, which is a legend never dies.
I started with two heroes and ended up with two far more heroic heroes.
One is now my Guardian Angel and the other is a hero that I will end up following in his steps.
One day I will be the hero and have someone follow me in my path.
Then, I will be come the legend and be someone’s Guardian Angel and protect them from making a fatal mistake.
My father has started his path of immorality.
Germaine has reached his path of immorality.
I will start my path of immorality sooner than I thought.
Heroes have a destiny; Germaine’s was to die as a hero and with honor
That’s what happened and that’s how he wanted to happen.
To die to protect lives of innocent people and our country.

This Poem is dedicated to Germaine and the Rio Rancho Police that work along side him
Also dedicated to all Police Officers and Soldiers in this country
I would like to thank all that served our country from the past to now

Germaine:
I look back on the escort that day and it is still fresh in my mind. As if we were just standing on Rio Grande Blvd. moments ago, enjoying the refreshments my wife had brought over for all of us, while we waited for the President to leave. I can still see your smiling face and appreciative smile. I just can't understand why things happened the way they did. We were just finishing the last stretch of the escort and then.......... I tried all I could to help you but just couldn't do enough. God needed you home brother. You are still thought of every day. I still inquire through your motor brothers in Rio as to how your wife and kids are doing. I have stopped by on occassion to make sure she and your kids are ok. You are not forgotten and your family is and will always be in my mind. God's blessings be on you and your family.

I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiancé Dennis. Everytime I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the man they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Officer Casey. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. You will be in my thoughts.

From reading the reflections left for Germaine, he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember Germaine's life and the MAN that he was. Remember that Germaine's life was about so much more than the way he died. Germaine will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.

Officer Casey, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my late fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been almost five years but we still miss him terribly.

Wishing you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)
