I never smile much at this website but I could not help myself when I read that the suspect had served 15 years and then was re-arrested when you had passed.

God Bless

Officer Barclay, A hero never dies as long as he is remembered. Your sacrifice and suffering for the past 40 years, and the bravery you displayed at the time of your shooting and the years following, has and will be an inspiration to all of the law enforcement community. God bless you brother and rest in peace. Best wishes and condolences to your surviving family.

I never dreamed it would be me,
my name for all eternity.
Recorded here at this hallowed place,
alas my name, no more my face.
"In the line of Duty" I hear them say,
my family now the price to pay.
My folded flag stained with their tears,
we only had those few short years.
The badge no longer on my chest,
I sleep now in eternal rest.
My sword I pass to those behind,
and pray they keep this thought in mind.
I never dreamed it would be me,
and on my heavy heart and bended knee.
I ask for all those here from the past,
Dear God, let my name be the last.

Officer Barclay, Thank You for your sacrifice. You performed you duty to God, Country, and the citizens of Philadelphia admirebly. Rest In Peace.

Officer Barclay, I just read your story on the internet and looked into the history of your struggle...I feel so bad for you and your family...the pain, the hurt and difficulties that you had after your shooting. No one in your position should have lived your life like you did, just to help your fellow man, you paid with suffering and more. I hope that your case sets case law and that others will know that you can be charged with murder after the fact and no matter how long after the crime happens that good people will always follow up and hold people responsible for their actions! I only wish now that you are not in pain and that you are in a better place! You and your family deserve better than what life delt you on that tragic day. Thank you for your service and I only hope that your family will go on knowing that you are in a better state of mind. Once again thank you for your service! Rest in Peace!

I was born in Philadelphia and was just one year old when you were shot. I can't help but wonder how many others were kept from harm's way by your sacrifice. What an incredible individual you are to have fought this battle for so many years. Without a doubt, a true hero. Our prayers go out to the family and freinds of Officer Barclay.

The policeman stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No lord, I guess I ain't,
because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint."

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
that wasn't mine to keep
though I worked a lot of overtime
when the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
though at time I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
among the people here.
They never wanted me around
except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't I'll understand.

There was a silence all around the throne
where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
for the judgment of his god.

"Step forward now, policeman,
you’ve born your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
you’ve done your time in hell"

Rest in peace!!!
