Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Sergeant Christopher Reyka

Why has this case gone cold? Where is the public interest in this case? Has this case been solved? Public servants like Sergeant Christopher Reyka are the backbone of society and the killers must face consequences of law on earth or in h__.

Mr. LeBeet was killed and if he was the one who killed you Sergeant Reyka, you are been rewarded by heaven while his being rots because of his wanton and heinous acts of violence against police. Rest in peace.

I was a 911 Police Dispatcher in Pompano Beach. Everyone knew that Sgt. Reyka was my favorite Sergeant. He was so nice, kind and decent and he loved his job. I woke up to a phone call from my supervisor telling me he was shot and killed. I was in shock and I still am. After work the next night I drove to Walgreen's and sat on a curb and sobbed. His blood was still on the pavement. Someone had put candles in the shape of a cross on the pavement. In the days and weeks to come people from all over the country stopped and left mementos at the site. I became the caretaker...stopping by every night to maintain the site. After several months it was decided to take the makeshift memorial down to make way for a permanent memorial. I made the decision to have a statue of an open book placed there. Four months before it was Sgt. Reyka's birthday and I asked him how old he was. He replied "I am as old as an open book...when you figure that out let me know". I never figured it out but I thought it was fitting.

Chris,

Not a day goes by without you in my thoughts and prayers. Today, Christmas, I pray for Kim, the kids and rest of your family. It was my honor to work beside you, throughout the years, as a brother in blue and a brother Marine. I'll never forget that night and the man you were away from the job! Love you brother!

Sarge. I just spoke with an officer on my department who used to be a BSO deputy and worked with you during the early 2000s. He spoke very highly of you and seeing that at the time of my writing this, you have over 550 reflections on your page, he was not alone in his high regard for you. I hope that time has helped heal the pain that your family and friends have had to endure since your passing. Judging by the numerous medals on your chest, you were no slacker and a warrior right to the end. Enjoy End of Watch sir, you have earned it.

Sergeant Reyka,

I will never forget the day you made a presentation to my OJT class at Palm Beach Central High School. I wouldn't be where I am today without your guidance. Your son has grown into a good man, father, marine, and now deputy.

Thank you for your service and the impact you had on my life.

I haven't forgotten you Sgt. I tell my trainees of your story. It still brings back the same hurt I felt the day when I heard you had been murdered, when I visit your page. I don't mind though. It makes my grateful of every day I have with my wife and son. He's a toddler, but I'm betting he will end up a 3rd generation LEO. It's engrained in my family. Thank you for your service. When my son is old enough, I'm going to tell him about your bravery and dedication. I am proud to share your career field.
