Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Joshua Norris
Josh
I know you stood by Eric's side as he made his trip to heaven. You and Kevin welcome him home. It breaks my heart another one of the 7 have left this life. Make sure you watch over Will, Mickey, Eon, and Lance

Josh,
I feel like I can be on a first name basis since I first watched your episode a few years ago. I continue to think of your story & of the sacrifice you made. I am starting another shift now & I often visit ODMP to reflect on others lost. I like to think it keeps me grounded at work.
Your still in my thoughts & prayers. God Speed Brother.

Well my brutha, another year without you here. A long 5 years is rapidly approaching, but there are many of us gathered in Portsmouth, VA gearing up to ride to DC in your honor. I am here this year and I will be thinking of you during the Unity Tour. When they call out your name on Sunday, I know you're up there watching over us. I won't be saddened by your death anymore, but I'll be proud to celebrate your life.

Well Boy Looks like Harrison got the thumbs up to head home, you kids give me more gray hair and if not gray you make it fall out more. Visited Eric the other day, he has lost allot weight and to most who have visited him regularly it may seem like little improvement in his condition. When I got to his room no one was there, so when I started talking to him he turned to the sound of my voice, probably not recognizing it. But as I talked you could see he was trying to communicate back. You know me, not one that beats around the bush or tip toes around a question, so I told him if he can understand me to give me a sign. Since he still has really no reflect controls, I just ask to give me a smile, which he did. We talked about his new son and you could tell that affected him. I know he is still fighting to get back and time will be the only thing which will allow that. As I told Beth, he is in the worst type of fire fight, alone and out gunned and no way to communicate that he is still in the fight, but still fighting. We had a good 20 minutes before his Dad came in and we talked about a number of things, mostly to hang in there and keeping fighting even if it drives him crazy that he cannot communicate now, it will come and keep the faith. Told him I had no clue why God chose him to have this fight, but he has a reason, as with you leaving us still not sure why. But as Eric and I talked I did realize something, I use to wonder why did God let this happen to you, at the start of a long life with everything in front of you. To be taken the day after you got engaged, then something clicked, which I want to say it was God tell me something. Much like the day when I got the phone call from Kenny that you were in being sent to the hospital. God's plan had you coming to him, but before you left he would give you that happiness of at least asking Jess, to finish that act which you wanted to do. In that 20 minutes with Eric we talked of you and again you could see reaction, so I know that he is still there and fighting. I just need to make sure I impart that to others, mostly Kristen, but also Jess. She has been spending allot of time with her and the baby. Son I know God gave you a pair of wings, need you to stand by Eric's side during his dark periods, as you did when he initial went in the hospital. But also touch those close to him as well, so they can see he is on the road to recovery, just it is on God's timeline and not ours. Well kid have to go, passed by the other day , see your brothers left you a couple of beers and a smoke for you birthday. Miss you kid and keep watching over everyone and like I told you when you were with us, take the time and tell those around you are thinking of them. You have a whole lot of people down here still missing you, give them a visit and strength in their day to day trials.

This weekend I was watching an episode of "Rookies" and saw you on the show. A brave young man, aspiring to pursue one of the hardest jobs there is. While you have left behind many friends and family, you have left us all with a definition of what it is to make the ultimate sacrifice. Your bravery helped to make sure one more bad guy isn't around to harm anybody anymore. Thank you Officer Norris, you are truly a hero in my mind.

Well Boy
Your birthday is just a day away, funny how I have lasting memoirs of simple thinks like Beth telling you Happy Birthday that first birthday you lived with us and how surprised you were. That short time you were living with us and just the time you were around the house as a kid and when dating Jess endeared you to Beth and I. Well Tara and Matt gave us a second grandson on Apr 20th so you , Kenny and Beth are sharing April birthday month. Harrison was almost a month and half early and scared us there at the being,. Little guy, 4 lb 6 oz , but has a warrior's heart, kind of like you. Had to get some medical stuff done at EJ and saw Adam, looking good lost a allot of weight m but kids will do that. I bet your name sake is a handful. Sometimes I tell myself, wish you would have been one of those guys that I did like , but my daughter just dated. But in the end kid you have a way of getting into people's heart, like all the visitors and those that watch rookies. Miss you kid

Ever since I watched Rookies a year or two ago I will never forget you. I'm going to pursue my dreams of becoming a Police Officer someday because of you. Thank you for being so brave and doing everything you did. It's so sad that your life was cut so short. I hope you're enjoying Heaven! Rest in peace Deputy Norris!

I just saw Officer Norris' Rookies episode for the first time. I am not sure why the episode moved me like it did but I am in tears right now. Officer Norris showed such potential and promise. Not only as a law enforcement officer, but as a human being in general. He displayed knowledge in questioning someone and just as much compassion during the death call. Even though his time on earth was much too brief, he improved our world greatly.
My deepest condolences to his fiancee, his family, and his department.

I was watching "Rookies" on a cable network when I saw the story of Deputy Norris. I watched him mature and begin to cohese with his fellow deputies and was please to see him complete his training. And then the end of the story, my family and I wached as it was told that he was killed in the line of duty. Needless to say I began to well up and my son, who is 20 years old, looked at me and told me, "Now I understand, Dad." I know it has ben awhile, but we want to express our sincere condolences to his family, friends and brothers in blue. Thank you "Rookies" for airing the show and helping us to remember how difficult our jobs can be when we are on the line.

When I first saw this espisode of Rookies I was in the Police Academy. After watching this episode it really makes you realize that we as officer are out to protect the people in the town that we serve and try and make piece. Most people that are in altercations don't see police officers as people trying to help, they view us as a threat. This episode really shows just how much we really need to pay attention on the street one minute you think everything is under control and the next any possible thing that could go wrong is probably happening.

My girlfriend and I watched the Rookies episode that featured Josh Norris last night. As we watched the beginning and Josh's first days on the road, we kept commenting how we remembered being that new and ready to be police officers. We got a good laugh as we watched Josh shave and get ready for work. "Is that kid even old enough to shave??" We chuckled at Josh's insecurities and how he hung back while the "real" police officers worked and again we commented on how it was the same for us. We continued to watch and we continued to comment and reminisce about our early careers. During that short episode we we watched as Josh grew from the wide-eyed newbie into an impressive officer who looked more confident and took control. And, like so many reflections on this page announce, we too were shocked and saddened to hear of this officer's death. Long after the episode was over, we kept talking about Josh. The amusement we found in Joh's new-ness while watching turned to envy as we talked. We realized we enjoyed being that new and ready to save the world. We talked about how we wanted to be that optimistic and "new" again and we decided that we would return to work with that same passion, optimism and professionalim that we saw in Josh during that episode. We found it funny that we spent a half hour laughing at this kid that had "so much to learn" and WE were the ones that ended up being taught by HIM. Thank's Josh. Rest in peace, brother.

Just watched the show "Rookies" and was so shocked and saddened by Officer Josh Norris's passing. My brother's name is Josh so the show struck me extra hard. I salute Officer Norris and all the men and women in law enforcement for their willingness to put their lives on the line in order to protect ordinary citizens like myself. To Officer Norris's family, friends, and fellow officers in blue, you are in my heart and prayers!
God Bless you all!

Just watched a show on you in FTO. Even though I never met you I would still call you my brother. You are the reason kids dream of becoming police officers. Determination, drive and a never-ending will to do the job are what you seem to have had. With over 10 years on I hope I never loose that same drive you had. Rest in Peace Brother.
